Frost/Nixon strikes me as the inevitable undistinguished yet inoffensive filler nominee we always see; as such, it is indestructible.

Even Michael Clayton had a handful of #1's, though.

His page design used to be a lot better, too. Still an excellent resource, though.

 Re: 2008 Top 10 Lists
I'm pretty sure WALL-E will stay on top too. The staple scene and subject matter is bound to turn off some critics from The Wrestler, that's the rules of the game.

 Re: 2008 Top 10 Lists
Yeah, Wall-E will be No. 1 by the end. The Wrestler's BFCA score and average at RT (although still excellent) indicate to me that it won't have the same passion. It will have around 10-15 100s at MC, like The Queen had.

When was the last time the #1 film did not get a BP nomination?

Anton Chigurh wrote: When was the last time the #1 film did not get a BP nomination? On Engin's list (I believe this is a different guy), Far from Heaven, Y tu mama Tampien and Adaptation. were the top 3 in 2002, and Ghost World and Mulholland Dr. were the Top 2 in 2001. It's it's far from unheard of. Since then though, the top film usually gets enough momentum from critics awards (Sideways, BBM, NCFOM) or already had it (The Departed). WALL-E is starting from the ground up with only LAFCA so far, so its closest successful comparison would probably be Lost in Translation (Which actually didn't win any of the major four critics awards), and really needs more associations to show it love.

 Re: 2008 Top 10 Lists
Even if WALL-E remains #1, I've always said its less about WALL-E earning the 5th spot outright and more about stealing it. You're an CGI film, of which 30% is a silent film. Those are fucked up handicaps.
Whether WALL-E takes it from The Wrestler, Revo Road, Frost/Nixon, or someone else, it's a race to 5th, that probably won't be decided until the 11th hour.

kypade wrote: What a dumb statement. Who is that guy again? Kris Tapley at In Contention. He's had big issues with WALL-E since the summer. And don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed Bolt and it could have easily have been a Pixar film with some minor tweaking. But in no known universe does it deserve to be on a Top 10 list. Moreso, if you're going to put a CGI animated film on your list, I mean, come on.
