Re: The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
Fantasy by the numbers. The Hamlet complex plotline, the disbanded creatures taking back the kingdom culminating in a big battle, the duel climax, the forced romance, the prince becoming king.
It felt like half the movie was just them revisiting the old sets from the first movie. There really wasn't enough plot to fill the movie's runtime. I mean, after Caspian escapes from the castle in the first 5 minutes, the next hour and a half before the duel consists of him just meeting the Brit gang and planning an attack on the castle. They would've been better off spending the first 20-30 minutes setting up the the world and castle life before Caspian escapes, or giving him development in some other way, or something.
The white witch appearance was unneeded. Aslan letting his people suffer for 1300 years for the reason of "things never happen the same twice" is hilarious. The water monster was there just for flash and commerical money-shots.
The side characters aren't as intriguing as in the first film, I missed Macavoy's character. The rat felt like a Puss in Boots ripoff.
Funniest part of the film was when literally 20 seconds after Caspian had his whole cliche "I won't kill, real kings don't do that" spiel, Peter runs out and chops an enemy soldier's head clean off. I also loved the part where Susan is about to fall off the cliff, and they do an "omgz, noo!" slow motion moment, then she falls to a ledge less than a foot below her.
Oh, and Lucy's revive from the dead potion is still seriously weak, it ruins any emotional possibilities or meaning to the deaths, and during scenes like the duel, it kills the stakes, as Peter would just be brought back to life if he lost anyways.
It's not unwatchable, but for the most part, dull and forgettable fare. I preferred the first.
2/5

Re: The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
Probably went into it expecting too much. I like the turn the franchise took for the most part, except it lost many aspects I enjoyed about the first. Which basically cancel each other out, and I'm not really able to say which movie I liked better. I haven't read the books, but hopefully movie 3 is able to capture what I liked about the first and second.
B-/B

Re: The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
2005 brought us the tale of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, the first in the series of Narnia stories by C.S. Lewis. The film was a soft and warm film for families that sat well for the holidays. It would get a solid B from me.
Now Prince Caspian, the second book in the series' movie adaptation is a much more thrilling adventure and fits well with the summer season it was put in. Its 144-minute doesn't have that many slow minutes to it. The sense of the film being darker comes right from the first scene with Prince Caspian (Ben Barnes). There is alot of action and supense that occurs here and continues throughtout the entire film. It becomes a big highlight in the wonderfully action-filled final battle.
The young cast was also great. Ben Barnes seems to fit very well as Prince Caspian and should be able to pull off the roll well again in Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The Pevensie children also grow drastically in their roles. William Moseley could do a little bit better in his role as Peter but progress has been shown. Anna Popplewell has also grown a bit as Susan but some of the situations she was given (including the Caspian crush) did not fit well for her and could have been thrown out. Georgie Henley and Skandar Keynes are the brightest in their roles as Lucy and Edmund and will be fun to see them again in Dawn Treader. Peter Dinklage and Eddie Izzard shined in their roles as Trumpkin the dwarf and the voice of Reepicheep the mouse and brought a good amount of comic relief.
The religion aspect seems alot stronger in this adaptation and I have a feeling Adamson can grow on this in the third adventure. However one thing I don't understand is how this got a PG rating. It is clearly PG-13 when you look at it. Parents who show this too the younger ones should take a second thought before showing this because there are some very gruesome killing scenes that shouldn't be shown to the younger audience. Maybe Disney will have sense and make the third one PG-13.
Overall, Prince Caspian is a much more thrilling adventure than its predecessor. The action is much better, the acting has improved, and my anticipation for the third film, Voyage of the Dawn Treader has grown even more. I'm disappointed that this film was a disappointment at the box office because it deserves right around the first's total. However, Prince Caspian was more a summer flick than winter (which the third one is). Hopefully, Voyage will take in enough money so this franchise can stay alive in the cinema.

Re: The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
I expected better but this was pretty much the same crap as the first one. The kids were awful, I have no idea were all the kind words for them come from. Barnes was ok as PC, the 'battles' were jokes and the villain was ultra-weak. Some nice visuals saved it from a total waste. D+

Re: The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
I loved the first, this was meh. B+ I gave it because I liked the first and I like fantasy movies and they're rarely made. So it wasn't that bad as compared it if was another genre. However I had major problems with Caspian's race. Their English was so bad, it's not even funny. When your actors cannot speak English in an English movie especially when they're for the most part English, you fail. It sounded like a cheap, low budgeted movie those scenes featuring the corrupt king and his men talking. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about, I mean, if they weren't supposed to speak English then there are many better ways to convey their speech. Yuck, it seemed like that steaming pile of shit, the SEEKER released last year.

Re: The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
I used to not like this movie as much as I do now. It wasn't much fun, and it ran on for far too long. But after watching the thoroughly mediocre third installment, going back to this one I realized how much I had missed. The story is not of the quality of the first installment overall, but there are many moments that are just as good overall. My personal favorite scene is the one where the hag and the werewolf try to resurrect Jadis. It was really creepy and tense, and I was really scared it would work. The special effects this time around are even better than the first time. My favorite new character was Trufflehunter; he looked gorgeous and vibrant despite only being black and white. Peter Dinklage's dwarf here is a great contrast to his character on GOT. Whereas Tyrion is confident and a good leader, Trumpkin distrusts regular humans completely at first, even though later he grows fond of the Pevensies. This isn't one I will revisit as much as the first installment, but it is a great movie when I watch it. It is the Temple of Doom of the Narnia franchise. it's a real shame this and the following installment disappointed so greatly at the box office so we will never see another.
