Milk at 100%/8.0 with 9 reviews.
Australia falls even further to a 65%
Defiance [which could have been troublesome] starts at 50%

Re: Well...the 2008 Contenders Discussion Thread
I posted this in another thread. Robotic food for thought Quote: Assuming WALL-E gets those 6 basic noms (Screenplay, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Animated Feature, Score, Song), I think its in a very good spot to get its 7th (BP).
Going back to 1990 there have been 77 films that have earned 6 or more Oscar nominations, of which only 9 didn't have BP nominations.
Dreamgirls (8) Cold Mountain (7) Dick Tracy (7) Bullets over Broadway (7) Terminator 2: Judgement Day (6) Road to Perdition (6) Frida (6) Memoirs of a Geisha (6) Pan's Labyrinth (6)
That's a 89% success rate. Hopefully the NBR shows the little fella some love next week.

Re: Well...the 2008 Contenders Discussion Thread
Has the comment by Anne Thompson of Variety where she calls it a "historic achievement" and "masterful piece of cinema" been posted yet? Yea, I'm feeling pretty confident in Button. At worst I think it'll slide in like Atonement and Munich.
For all intensive purposes pretty much in: Slumdog Millionaire Milk The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The rest? The Dark Knight Doubt Revolutionary Road
Feeling least confident in Revo. Road right now.
On the outside looking in: The Wrestler

Re: Well...the 2008 Contenders Discussion Thread
The Dark Knight = King Kong
I know that after LOTR, everyone loves the idea of another big fanboy pic getting a BP nom, but it just isn't in the cards, guys.
If I had a nickel for every person on this board who insisted, right to the very last second, that King Kong would get the nomination, well, I'd be able to trade 'em in for at least three quarters.

Re: Well...the 2008 Contenders Discussion Thread
Writing nod? DIRECTING NOD?
Differences between KK & TDK, favoring KK:
- KK had Oscar pedigree director - Big buzz end of year release; poor TDK with that summer date. And we all know there's a strong correlation between release date and victory - KK was big studio epic in a year with smaller-minded contenders (this year has numerous big-money, big-studio players)
See how easy that was?

Re: Well...the 2008 Contenders Discussion Thread
It depends on how good to great a reception both BB and RR get. If they deliver in both acting and techs as early reviews have suggested, then TDK's position will indeed become tricky, as I can't put it ahead of Milk or Slumdog Millionaire in term of likelihood for a BP nomination at this point. The good thing is that no other film has emerged to firmly challenge the No. 5 spot yet, as Doubt and Frost/Nixon both have their weaknesses.

Re: Well...the 2008 Contenders Discussion Thread
It's also worth noting the King Kong banner wavers were all pretty sure that acting, writing and directing nods would be strolling down the pike.

Please. You don't have to put that much effort into arguing with Magnus. Just tell him he's too far in the closet to see the truth and be done with it.

Re: Well...the 2008 Contenders Discussion Thread
If King Kong grossed 500 mil it would've been the most surefire nominee in its year. Also TDK is sort of relevant to America's attitude right now... even though it's a superhero film, that's > remake about giant ape. And Heath Ledger is winning and pretty much sweeping the Supporting Actor precursors, just about bank on it. Also don't forget TDK's acclaim is much, much higher than King Kong's. Over 90% at RT, a year high 96 on BFCA the best indicator, etc.
The Jackson-Nolan thing is irrelevant because Jackson had already been given his due, if anything already having so much glory with LOTR just hurt his chances.

Actually, TDK was relevant to America's attitude 6 months ago.
