Zing, think about it, are your top 3 really worthy of such generous grades?

Yes, definently. Mindhunters was excellent, as was Coach Carter. Hide and Seek is probably the only one that might have a higher grade than it might deserve, but it certainly was a great movie. Well.. to me anyways.

Yes, I'm questioning those grades too, Zing.
1. Assault on Precinct 13 (A) (sorry Algren)
2. Elektra (B-)
3. Coach Carter (C+)
4. Hide and Seek (C)
5. White Noise (C)
6. Are We There Yet? (D+)
I refuse to include Alone in the Dark in any top 10 other than the top 10 worst films ever.

Why? I mean, maybe I'm generous with my grades, but Coach Carter was one of the best sports movies I've ever seen. Should I still give that a B or C? That would make no sense. Elektra is not A worthy, nor is it below average either. White Noise and Hide and Seek were both good horror movies, so I refuse to give those movies lower grades unless I think they don't deserve it. Boogeyman and Alone in the Dark deserve the grades they got, 100%.
For example, Assault on Precinct 13. At first, I had it at an A, but now, it's at a B+. It could go even lower, but the more I think about the film, the more I think that it wasn't as excellent as it could have been.

Zing, I hate to do it, but I gotta side with Algren here. Don't you think A grades should be reserved for the best of the best? True cinema that you could watch again and again? If you give A's to films that you just really liked or thought were pretty cool, you kind of dilute the meaning of movies that truly are great. Honestly, when you were watching Coach Carter, did you think to your self - "Wow. This movie transcends time. It will be a classic I remember for the rest of my life." Or did you think, "Hey - pretty cool flick."

I loved Mindhunters, and that's an understatement. It's such a great movie, I can't even begin to explain. Coach Carter was one of the best sports movies ever, yet the people are saying it doesn't deserve such a high grade haven't even seen it yet (other than Mr. X). Many others on this site have given Coach Carter an A as well, so it's like I'm being singled out here for enjoying a movie as much as I did.

Just as long as you honestly enjoyed those movies that much, I don't have a problem with it.
But, seriously, an A- for Hide and Seek? That movie was pretty generic, Man.

By the end of the year i imagine my Zings grade for Coach Carter, Assault on Precinct 13 & Mindhunters to go down, not too much, but it'll go down, i think anyway.

Coach Carter: http://www.worldofkj.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3303
Out of that whole thread, there was only one person who didn't give Coach Carter an A. How else do I justify that it's a great movie?

Grades change all the time, so it's now like my grades are permanent. But, what I'm trying to say is that if I liked a movie a lot, I don't know how anyone could think my grade is too high, when infact, it's my grade.

I do it as well, i graded Assault on Precinct 13 a B-, but i gave Walking Tall, Spiderman 2 and Kill Bill Vol. 2 all lower grades last year, that is fickle, because i enjoyed the latter three more than i enjoyed AoP13, its annoying because i grade so many movies, that i begin to lsoe count of what ive graded good and what ive graded bad.
Im changing my grade on AoP13 from 'B-' to 'C+'.

Like I said, that's probably the only movie that I would think might have been given a higher grade than it should have been, but when I walked out of the theater, that's how I felt. Ever since then, I haven't though too much about that, since I have other things on my mind, but that's just how it is. If I were to watch it again, I'm sure that grade will change, but whether it goes up or down (most likely down, if anything) remains to be determined.

Heh. Funny - I did the exact opposite with AoP13. A couple of days after seeing it, I had it at C+. I moved it up to B- after I thought about the film more.

Final comment... if I were that much of an easy grader, Boogeyman and Alone in the Dark would not be that low.
They sucked very badly, and that's an understatement, so they will get a bad grade. If I ever watch Alone in the Dark again (I hope to god that I don't have to), it may become an F. Who knows? Grades change, guys, and we do have our own opinions at the end of the day. Algren, you enjoyed Catwoman a whole lot, but after the second viewing, you dropped it to a B+. That's completely normal, and I expect my grades to change countless times until even 2006. I already started, with Assault on Precinct 13.

I guess my best advice would be to hold off on giving a grade until the day after you see the movie. Let that natural high you get from seeing a film wear off, and then look back on it. That's what I try and do.

Good advice makeshift.
And Zing, that is true, when i viewed Catwoman again, i questioned why the hell i graded it so high. Its just a natural high i suppose, like makeshift said.
