 Tom Hanks vs. Morgan Freeman
Who gave, in you opionion, the better performance?
-----------------------------------------------------------
Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump
or
Morgan Freeman in The Shawshank Redemption?
For me, it's easily Tom Hanks.

I love Tom Hanks. But I have to say Morgan Freeman's performance in The Shawshank Redemption is the best ever by an actor.

Morgan's was supporting though and Tom's a lead so it's not really comparable. But Freeman was great for sure, he's the only thing I liked about that movie.
It kind of cracked me up though that his character was called Red. I had this image that the screenplay had been written with the intention of the chracter being Irish, but that they'd just gone ahead and cast the best man for the part even though it meant changing the race of the character. I don't know if that's true, I'm saying that is how it struck me.

That's 100% true and is covered in the bonus booklet and features of the special edition dvd.

Yep, the guy in the book was not black. Awesome performance by one of my favorite actors.

I say Tom Hanks, but only because he actually had to act as such. Hanks had to change his mannerisms, voice and stance, whereas Morgan Freeman only had to change his role, like all other actors, so i say Hanks because he actually had to do something, which alot of people cant do.
Bearing in mind, i think Morgan Freeman's performance in Shawshank Redemption was brilliant.
