Post Quarantine
I had little to no interest in seeing this until Gulli and Lecter told me about REC and I found out this was a remake of it. I haven't seen REC, but judging by the stuff I've read about it it is pretty incredible. I guess I'm wondering if it'd be worth seeing Quarantine at all or if I should just seek out REC. If it's a fairly true remake of it, I'd imagine Quarantine would be pretty amazing, too.

Conflict!

Watch REC! It's only like an hour and ten minutes long. And it's awesome.

And then you can also find out why Gulli and I are angry about the spoiler nature of the Quarantine commercials.

I don't want to have to battle with downloading and trying to find subtitles and all that crap.

Yeah, pretty sure I know what you're talking about.

Spoiler: show
From what I have gathered the final shot of the movie is used in the trailer, right? Where the reporter is pulled away into darkness? It seems weird they would use that in their marketing to begin with, not even considering it's a remake. People would be pissed regardless that the final shock of the movie was already given away.

Yeah, that's it.

You should really try and seek it out before watching Quarantine. I don't know if it's going to be an exact shot-for-shot remake, but it seems unlikely that it'll match the quality of the original. American horror has been shit lately.

The directors of Quarantine are from Highland Park, Minnesota, which is cool. They also directed the as yet unreleased Poughkeepsie Tapes.

REC is awesome.

I was really anticipating quarantine but when i found out it was a remake, that anticipation died quite fast. I had no idea REC even existed until it was on theaters over here.

but yeah, see REC.

I seen REC in cinemas earlier this year in the UK, i loved it.

I don't see why Quarantine won't be just as good.

However the comments about the marketing ruining the ending arent true, the producers stated that the ending is different from REC. The story was on BD....i'll check for link.

You should definitely see [Rec] first. One of the scariest trips I have ever had. Well, maybe not scariest, but definitely most tense. Towards the end the suspense is unbearable.

If they changed the ending I hope they also changed the "revelation". It was an awful part of otherwise pretty great movie.

You answered your own query. Why must American directors always fuck up what made the original work so well?

Eh, honestly, I don't oppose that. Maybe it's something different, but equally good. I mean otherwise it seems like a shot-for-shot remake why would I bother seeing that? There's a good chance the new ending will suck, but there's a slight chance it won't. I'd take the risk.

I agree. If it's the same thing, why bother seeing it? I saw the Funny Games remake and loved it, but I don't see the point in now watching the original. I still have it on my Netflix queue though just in case I change my mind.

Yet if they were to remake INSIDE I know I'd be pissed if they changed anything. Go figure.

It's 67% Fresh at Rotten Tomatoes right now. It will probably be rotten when more reviews come in, but even mediocre reviews for this would be encouraging.

I saw Quarantine today, and discussed the differences between it and [Rec] with Gulli.

Spoiler: show
It has the same ending as [Rec].
