Yes dave could bomb but the problem is that it might be able to capitalize on the fact that audiences will get tired of action and cgi flicks.

True - though there seems to be a large number of comedies in summer 08. If Hancock underperforms which I think is likely - the July 11 films could do well. However, Im anticipating both Get Smart and Wall-E to be huge so carry over business from them should be strong.

I think July is in decent shape.

Hancock is obviously going to be big and don't underestimate the combo of Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D and Hellboy II. With enough marketing, both can open to $30+ million.

Obviously, no really big film wants to land in the second weekend of either Hancock or The Dark Knight. The omly weakish weekend, IMO is July 25th, but even then Step Brothers might well open to $30 million and X-Files 2 should open to $20+ million with ease as well.

August is pretty packed as well, maybe except for the Labor Day weekend.

i dont see anyway hellboy 2 outsodes the first one. Hancock will win that weekend in the low 20's.

Post Re: The Official Movie Release Date Schedule-June 20th
At this point think either Love Guru or Get Smart will move back one week to June 27th with a possible Wednesday opening to give it a full week from HANCOCK.

WB is extremely confident in GET SMART having had it locked down since November of last year.

Also agree that WB will undoubtedly move DARK KNIGHT up to a Wednesday the 16th opening though don't expect them to make that official until a few weeks before.

There will be some fairly impactful news at ShoWest for at least one film in June.

Universal is promoting Hellboy II more than the first was promoted and Pan's Labyrinth certainly helped del Toro to get more fans. I see a $25+ million opening at least.

Eagle eye - September 26th 2008

I was somewhat expecting this after Tropic Thunder moved. I guess it'll work out for the best. Eagle Eye is a movie that really is probably going to do the same no matter where it opens.

Dragonball should just move...somewhere. It needs to get out of that spot ASAP.

Ya i think they will move up 1 week or they will just move it to february or march 2009.

Moving to 2009 would not be a bad idea. There just really doesn't seem to be a good time for it. The only slot I can think of is July 11th, but Fox already has a movie there and there is a good chance TDK is going to take that spot.

Oh well good luck fox marketing dragonball.

Thanks.

They should put Alice in Wonderland in the summer as Aliens Vs Monsters is out in March.

Though it doesnt really make sense that they put Wich mountain less than a week before Alice.

God I love when studios unleash so many movies at once. So much to talk about.

Hannah Montanna - Could you say the greatest counter-programming....ever? I mean seriously. Wolverine and HM are both going to have huge OW and won't affect each other AT ALL. Brilliant. BRILLIANT!!!

Old Dogs - Probably should switch with Race to Witch Mountain and get the spot Wild Hogs got. Just to be on the safe side.

Prince of Persia - Horrible move. You have a great July spot and now you move to a week before Transformers.

G-Force - It's a better move for it personally. But I still don't think the project has that much potential, while Persia does. Disney should switch those two.

Surrogates - Sci-fi movie with Willis? Interseting.

Alice in Wonderland - If Horton does well, then this is a great spot. If it underpreforms, then they may want to consider putting it in July 2010 in a simliar spot that Charlie had.

Didnt realise Prince of Persia had changed dates. Thats just stupid. One week before Transformers is just idiocy - unless they know that Transformers is moving to the 2nd weekend of July which is possible.

Old Dogs - that sounds like a sequel to Wild Hogs - so March would be better, but April is ok.

A lot of potentially strong performers:

Righteous Kill (Pacino/DeNiro)
Tyler Perry's The Family that Preys Together
Eagle Eye
Valkyrie
City of Ember
Body of Lies
The Women
Max Payne
High School Musical
Saw V

No surprise there. That film is going to be a monster. 200m+.

I remember people saying the same thing about Day After Tommorrow but nope it didnt hit 200 million. How would 2012 be any different when its just another disaster movie?

nope. You do realize its another disaster flick and the concept itself seems worn down quite a bit. Seems like its just a TDAT recycle with more buildings destroyed

2012 should do between $190-210 million if marketed very well. Overseas this will be huge like $350+ million.

I think 2012 will be more a War of the Worlds gross wise than TDAT. It should be quite big actually - more like $230m+

I thought it would take Memorial Day which is still empty. But this is a good date.

I thinl Prince of Persia should either move earlier in June or go to Memorial Day.

Yeah thats what I think they think - but they should have kept the July release date.

Now they need to move furthe away from Transformers. Either Memorial Day or late July.

Memorial Day for sure. NATM2 is a film that wouldn't neccessairly affect it that much. In fact, neither A&D or NATM2 would hurt it. They should claim it before Paramount wises up and claims Memorial Day for Star Trek.

Yep. They need that date badly. Star Trek would waste the date really. Its ok where it is.

Well, I think Star Trek is kind of screwed in any summer spot. But it would be much better at Memorial Day.

Look at the release schedule. Star Trek just looks out of place. But I guess if they cant get it out for Dec 08, then it has to be summer as they would want to stay far away from Avatar. If X Files 2 does well, perhaps they can move Star Trek to July/August.

T4 - May 22nd 2009

same weekend as NATM 2

seems like fox really pissed off wb by suing them for watchmen and hence we have star wars releasing against dragonball and T4 against NATM 2.
