Nice run for Gael Monfils... finally a hometown favorite for the FO (Mauresmo = fail) And I think Safina might actually win.

I was watching this just moments ago on TTC when she was up 5-2. That is a total meltdown then because navratilova and the other commentators were harping about how safina was on the verge of giving up/running out of gas and had to shorten points as much as possible. What a choke job, but she is hot. Kuznetsova or Jankovic (my fav) ftw!

Re: The Tennis Thread - French Open '08
Women's Final - Saturday 9am EDT Dinara Safina RUS [13] v. Ana Ivanovic SRB [2]
Safina looked impressive with her drubbing of Kuznetsova in the semis and she has been one of the best on clay this year. Ivanovic has a very solid game, and his dangerous on any surface, she is in her third grandslam final, and the nerves shouldn't be as big an issue for her as for Safina.
I hope for a close match. I don't think Safina can afford to get down again and expect to pull out a victory. I'll say Ivanovic in 2, but I think Safina will make the second one close.
Men's Final - Sunday 9am EDT Roger Federer SUI [1] v. Rafael Nadal ESP [2]
For the third straight year, these two will face each other in the final, but I can't think of another year where the outcome should be more lopsided. Nadal has dominated this tournament and looks untouchable on the red clay. Federer on the other hand has had moments of brilliance but they've been thrown in amidst a sea of mediocrity. I have trouble imagining Federer taking a set to a tiebreaker much less winning the thing.
Though I hope otherwise, I think Nadal takes his fourth title with relative ease in straight sets.

I hope Ana can do it!! Im predicting an upset and Federer winning the mens. It will be ironic that he finally wins the French in the year he has no chance at the Grand Slam!!

Gratz to the new #1. Her game isn't flashy or even that creative but she gets the job done and she's quite the looker.
Please Please Please let Federer beat Nadal this time. Please.

Re: The Tennis Thread - French Open '08
I woke up early for this? Yikes.
Maybe Federer should pull a Henin before Wimbledon, because that was embarassing.
Full credit to Nadal, who played fantastic tennis throughout the tournament, and isn't looking to give up his crown any time soon.

Re: The Tennis Thread - French Open '08
Federer just doesn't have it anymore, I mean that's a huge credit to where he was before as he still made the finals he just can't compete with Nadal. My prediction was 6-3, 6-1, 6-2. Never thought I'd be overestimating Roger with that prediction. I'm not even sure I'd call Roger the favorite for Wimbledon, if he is it's by a small margin.

Re: The Tennis Thread - French Open '08
I was thoroughly disgusted with today's performance by Federer. McEnroe, however, stated it pretty clearly during the Monfils match that if Fed played liked he did in that match then he'd have little change against Nadal but 6-1 6-3 6-0...wth. Nadal looks like he won't be losing anytime soon there and I think Federer is in danger of not even winning Wimbledon this year after his struggles last year. The post match comments by both players were classy and respectful and they are two excellent ambassadors of the game.

I recorded the final and just watched it, awful performance from Federer. Sets up well for the widest open SW19 in a long time though, should be exciting.

So Nadal wins the Stella Artois, i have him as my favourite to win wimbledon now, although Federer will be out for revenge. I'd just love to see it happen.

Yeah, I would favor Nadal for Wimbledon too, he took prime RFed to 5 sets last year, surely weak juice RFed will be easier, especially after the French debacle and this victory. Nadal kind of looks unstoppable.

Federer's going to have to work very hard to keep his title. His draw looks brutal. Most notably Djokovic in the semis.
