Why is High School Musical 3 coming out in October? Is there some sort of significance to that date?

I think it's like a Halloween-theme film, so releasing it a week before Halloween makes perfect sense. It's not Halloween themed. They changed it to be themed around their Senior year of high school. Disney should open High School Musical 3 in either August or December of next year.

Magnus - for the next KJ awards - we really have to bust some heads and make sure the "Release Date Junkies" get a spot on the ballet!

Yeah its the only way to go. It can still pull $55/60m+ in that slot. A week earlier and it could get battered.

Good move for Forgetting Sarah Marshall! Universal should move Baby Mama. Not a good date for it.

Yes fantastic move for Sarah Marshall. Brilliant! April will indeed be better than last year now.
What is Wild Child?
Ladiesman - he was talking about Mama's boy and not Mamma Mia.

Good move by Forgetting Sarah Marshall. It will have much more room in that slot, Sex and the City will grab almost every single female filmgoer on May 30, probably.

Great move for Forgetting Sarah Marshall. It wasn't going to do well against Sex and the City.
I also thought it was a little odd to have Apatow productions opening in back-to-back weeks (Sarah Marshall on May 30, You Don't Mess with the Zohan on June 6).

Ladiesman - he was talking about Mama's boy and not Mamma Mia. Ugh, it's the new Emma Roberts movie. Synopsis: A rebellious Malibu princess is shipped off to a strict English boarding school by her father. Starring: Emma Roberts, Aidan Quinn, Alex Pettyfer Sounds like a flop.

Thanks Yeah these films dont usually do well anymore. Probably $20m max.

On another note -Michael Clayton is getting a re-release in 1000 theatres next weekend.

Re: The Official Movie Release Date Schedule
Magnus I'll forgive you for your over exuberence. It will not beat Titanic. Maybe $350m but not much more. But the re-release of the first two in 3D is interesting. They made sure they wont clash with any Disney films either. This seems like a new trend - re-release old films in 3D before new installments arrive. That should mean good things for LOTR. Its probably also how they'll handle Pirates and Spidey 4 maybe. So 2010 is shaping up. Shrek and Narnia in May, Toy Story in June and Potter in July before Hobbit in December! And thats just a start!

And they are also releasing Toy Story 1 in 3-D on October 2nd 2009, and Toy Story 2 in 3-D on Febuary 12th, 2010. Talk about a greaty way to lead up to a movie. Release the previous two in 3-D months before. This film is going to beat Titanic. I said it. 3D rocks. But this aint gonna be that appealing to me on 3D.

Magnus wrote: MadGez wrote: So 2010 is shaping up. Shrek and Narnia in May, Toy Story in June and Potter in July before Hobbit in December! And thats just a start! Shrek and Narnia will do well but I think they both may actually do below 250m. We've seen how short-gap between sequels is not really the best idea (POTC3, which mark my words would have made more money if it was coming July 2008), espically if the WOM for the predcessor is not going to be that great. People won't be that eager to see a new Narnia film that fast after seeing Narnia 2. Shrek will lose every demograph outside of kids/family. Sub-100m OW for it, and a sub-300m total for sure, and maybe a total under 250m. The big three in 2010 really are TS3, Hobbit, and HP7. And right now, TS3 is the front-runner. Two years between Narnias isnt too bad. Remember it was originally coming out May 09 which would have been silly. I agree it will make less than $300m. Same with Shrek. And I agree with your top 3 of 2010, however Potter and Hobbit are more surefire hits IMO. But all three can make $350m+ Also - there is a chance that Transformers 2 will come out in 2010 - if thats the case than four films with $350m+ potential! Thats a good point re: Pirates. Imagine that opened July 4th weekend 08. Summer 08 would hit juggernaught territory.

Re: The Official Movie Release Date Schedule
The hype for HP7 will be through the roof, but Toy Story 3 has serious break-out potential like Shrek 2 did back in 2004. In any case, I see both making $350+ million.
