Winter ends on the same day every year, regardless of Phil and his shadow

Oh, really? Poor ol' Phil saw his shadow. He'll have nightmares for the next year. His special powers will give us six more weeks of winter. You know what I say? Fuck Phil!
Like Bill Murray said in Groundhog Day, I say spring starts on March 21st. Deal with it!

According to the Gardnerian Wiccans and various other Pagan groups, Groundhog day was originally Imbolc/Candlemas/St. Bridgid's Day, and the first day of spring. Imbolc was alledgedly appropriated by the Christians along with the other nature holidays such as Oestara, Samhain, and Yule.
Where they got the groundhog from is beyond me. :-s

How long does a groundhog live?
How does it work? If one Phil passes on, do they replace him with his son or a relative.
Groundhog Day, the movie, had one of the coolest lines a guy could use on a girl. Does anybody remember it?
It goes something like,
She is generous, beautiful, kind to strangers and she looks like an angel, standing in the snow.
If somebody knows the entire line, can you post it, please?

We do have gay groundhogs...actually, it's the same groundhog that's been doing the "shadow thing" for over 100 years according to "the" Groundhog Day people. Just how long do they live for??

Every year, and this year being no exception...I don't get it.
Would you mind explaining this "custom" to me.
I'm just..."yay...spring...6 weeks...yay...phil....."

But the Groundhog just disclosed that it had been paid 50,000 dollars by the Bush administration to see its own shadow, it apologizes for the ethical lapse and promises to do better next year.
I ripped that off from a Mike Lukavich cartoon that cracked me up.
