Post Anyone looking forward to "History of Violence"
A stylized thriller from director David Cronenberg, "A History of Violence" examines how far a man is willing to go in his quest for redemption and to protect his family. Viggo Mortensen stars as Tom McKenna, a man who leads a quiet, charmed life with his loving wife and family in a small town. But when an unexpected incident turns bloody and brings unwanted attention to him, Tom is forced to return to his secret past in order to rescue his family from peril

Come on ... after LOTR he couldn't have thought of any better roles than Hidalgo and this? I mean come on ... this is just stupid ... its somethng that would star Val Kilmer.

I'll get excited for anything directed by Cronenberg.

It doesn't really sound like his kind of film, though.

Fango spoke recently to screenwriter/director Josh (INFESTED) Olson, whose script A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE will be helmed soon by David Cronenberg for New Line (see previous item here). He tells us that despite Cronenberg’s involvement and the project’s title, "There is some violence, but it is much more of a character-based drama. It’s not in any way, shape or form what you could call a horror film or a genre film—though I don’t want to sound like I’m looking down on those. The thing I’ve loved about Cronenberg is that you so rarely know what you’re going to get, and his willingness to take risks and do things that are very different from what he’s done before, and this will be keeping in that tradition of surprising you. The violence that’s in it is going to be pretty intense, but there are essentially three scenes, and the rest is the characters living with the cost of violence and the ramifications of it.

"It’s sort of a modern-day UNFORGIVEN," Olson continues, "and it does connect to his other films in certain ways, but is very different in others, at least at this stage. It’s sort of set in a closed-off-society, in a little town in the Midwest, and some of the characters have fairly dark issues."

Sounds like the violence is going to be in the same level as The Punisher and Assault on 13th Precinct. Im not too familiar with the comic book so would I be expecting alot of gore also since Cronenberg directed it. He was also responsible for the Fly and Scanners

Actors don't think up roles unless they produce or write the projects. They either do or don't do roles that are offered to them.

Most actors would kill their first born sons and daughters to work with Cronenberg.

Cronenberg making a thriller is like Scorsese making a kung-fu movie... meaning the genre or the short two line description is not going to really represent the depth of the final project.

Val Kilmer has been in some fantastic movies of late.

AICN posted a review with spoilers from one person who screened the movie. He says the gruesomeness rivals Cronenberg's The Fly. Im looking forward to it very much

....These two have some pretty explicit cronenbergesque scenes together, which Im hoping will not be cut out of the theatrical release, but Im pretty sure it would deem a NC-17 rating.
