 The Core The Core Quote: The Core is a 2003 American disaster film loosely based on the novel Core by Paul Preuss. It concerns a team that has to drill to the center of the Earth and set off a series of nuclear explosions in order to restart the rotation of Earth's core. The film was directed by Jon Amiel, and starred Aaron Eckhart, Delroy Lindo, Tchéky Karyo, Hilary Swank, DJ Qualls, Bruce Greenwood, and Stanley Tucci.

This is one of those movies I got ripped apart on for giving a good review to when it came out, because it had a low Rotten Tomatoes score or whatever. Me and MovieDude were even the core of a club of Core fans...  {Edit: I just went thru all 96 pages of this forum manually (damn that broken search function!), and it appears there is no thread for this movie - - very mysterious...} Anyways, here's my original review from March 2003: I went to see The Core on Saturday with admittedly low expectations, I left the theatre one happy human unit. This surely must pick up the mantle as reigning Sci-Fi Comedy masterpiece, descended as it is in the proud but sparse line that is this genre. It combines just the right mix of a serious (yet wild) plot, with a clearly talented comic cast and script. The action never lets up and that gosh darn digging machine will give you sex dreams (or nightmares) for a month. For those whose taste runs to: Alien II, Star Trek IV, The Arrival, Buckaroo Bonzai, Tremors, or Dr. Strangelove ... I urge you to not listen to the naysayers -- this is a movie I can recommend wholeheartedly!

Re: The Core I liked it. It's completely implausible, but it uses that implausibility sensibly (yes it makes sense).

And you can just use this link, which has a constantly updated list of all the movies in this forum. As for the film itself, I like it a lot too. It fulfills every disaster film archetype and it does it so cheesily that you have to look at this film as a camp classic. It's so overtly ridiculous and over-the-top that I can't help but appreciate it for that.
