Post Re: The Dark Knight
I agree with pretty much everyone else in the forum that TDK is immaculate and one of the finest films of the year, if not of all time. It is because of that I wil spare eveyrone the basics they already know about (Heath rocking the shit) and just give two points I feel haven't been made.

1. Aaron Eckhart deserves some credit, Heath did do an amazing job but Aaron's performance was pretty good considering what he was up against, and he delivered a very nuanced performance. I hope people talk about this role than his overrated (in my opnion) performanc in Thank You for Smoking.

2. I disliked how the Joker's arc finished, but that is because I knew Heath was dead and he wouldn't be coming back for the 3rd that would have def. had him, so no one can be faulted for that.

In my opnion, I can only see Mad Hatter and the Riddler being the only two villians left to be used. In my opnion, I think the Penguin would have been a good villian to use to show the evils of bueracracy but I am not Jonathan or Christopher Nolan and never will be.

Oh, A + (obvi)

Overrated on opposite day

Now the sequel looks to be as it looks to lose everything that makes Bond Bond, Casino Royale was the perfect mix of intelligent new age spy movies and old classy 60s Bond with the Casino scenes. I am prepared to be disapointed in Quantom Solace, although I am one of the few to think it has an awesome title.

9.2/10 (A+)

The film is as close to perfect as you're going to get. There isn't much I can add that hasn't been said before. Everyone played their role perfectly, with Heath completely disappearing into the role. The movie was more of a crime drama than it was a super hero. Gone were the cliches from previous super heroes, as dark themes were introduced. I thought the reaction of the citizens from the Joker to be a great parallel to modern day America. TDK is probably the first movie to accurately portray the mood of Americans post 9/11. I'm not even sure I want to go back and rewatch BB anymore. The movie just seems so simple compared to the second offering in this franchise. Every single flaw that was present in BB is completely gone in TDK.

Post Re: The Dark Knight
I feel as if this review (or more like a summary of thoughts) is pointless, as I consider The Dark Knight brilliant as well, although I have a couple different opinions about certain aspects...

I almost cried watching Ledger a couple times and knowing he wouldn't be back, especially in the scene where he's dangling upside down, where I had a bad gut instinct it would the last time I'd see him on screen for the rest of the film.

Eckhart really surpassed all of my expectations. His descent into the madness of Two Face was completely understandable and realistic, and I may have felt for him more than any other character in this film. His story arc drives this film just as much as Joker and Batman's, and is what makes this feel like such a complete masterpiece in its themes and tone. I do hope he's not dead though.

Oldman was great as Gordon. I was so troubled by his death I completely ignored logic that he had scenes in the trailer that hadn't even been seen yet and went straight to depression. I along with almost everyone in the theater screamed so loud when he came back from the dead we missed the next 10 seconds of dialogue.

I all-around loved Bale, and felt he was a lot more comfortable as both Batman and Wayne this time around. He changed his voice a little for Batman, and I guess I'm in the small minority that thinks it sounds great, and fits the character perfectly. Jesus, this is a realistic Nolan universe, and you can see half of a guy's face. Obviously he's going to have to change his voice, in addition to him wanting to intimidate criminals.

The ending gave me goosebumps as Gordon gave his speech, and I didn't feel like any of the final 30 minutes lagged in any way. I think critics and fans alike would have been much fonder of the ending if it were not for Ledger's death. Obviously everyone was hoping and praying for more closure with the Joker towards the end because he will never be seen again, but from a film standpoint, it handled the character perfectly. Even if he doesn't come back, I'm satisfied with that resolution.

A sequel to this...well I just don't think it would do its predecessor justice, and truthfully, I think true fans of the character and this version of his story will agree. Sometimes you can't always have more of something you love, and that's what makes you appreciate it even more. But maybe I'm getting too deep, it's late.

It's been a full 24 hours since I sat down in the theater to view it and I'm still in awe of this film.

A+

The Dark Knight made me reflect on my life and the people in it. The conflicts in the movie made me appreciate more the people in my life. I can honestly say that if it were not for The Dark Knight, I would never have reunited with my estranged Son and wife.

I've been in a dark time in my life, but thanks be to The Dark Knight for bringing me to light.

I have no idea what this is even means anymore, it's so pointless.

Batman changing the "rules" in his universe is not a profound statement outside the film itself.

I change my grade to a D!

ok guys. i loved the movie well, but a 9.2/10 is not an A+

only perfect scores can be A+. Otherwise, it's an A. Call a spade a spade please.

Every person rates films differently.

I disagree with your rating system. But I'm not going to tell you to change it.

Sam is right, the rating system should be changed and standardized. You are no longer free, accept it, slave.

I think you are referring to me. If you are then know that my grading scale isn't 9-10 (A), 8-9(B), etc. My scale is 0-2(F), 2.1-4(D), 4.1-6(C), 6.1-8(B), 8.1-10(A). So yes a 9.2/10 is an A+ for me.

My grades are evenly distributed from 1-10 instead of being top heavy from 5-10. What exactly is the problem with that?

Post Re: The Dark Knight
I'll have my full review up either later tonight (it's late due to a thunderstorm which knocked out my power for most of the evening) or in the early afternoon for the site, but I'll just say for now that I enjoyed the film very much and I didn't find it to be as dark as some people are suggesting. I'm not sure what that says about me, but I think the film's humor (the first real scene with Joker - the one in the kitchen boardroom with the other crime bosses was hilarious) kind of kept everything from being completely grim.

I'll just say for now though that I think the comparisons to Heat, The Empire Strikes Back, or even the second Godfather are a little extreme. I don't even think it's the best superhero film of the year, let alone best film of the year.

Well, I don't want to be a buzz kill over this. I just think an A+ is the highest you can go which means that whatever your scale, it would be the highest number possible (ie 100%, 10/10, 4.0, Five Stars, etc).

Anywa, the point is that the movie is great. I get it.
