Re: The Dark Knight pre-sales and sellout watch
Dunno if this has been mentioned yet, but the Cinemark @ Seven Bridges' IMAX in Woodridge (Nearest to Chicago on Fandango) is sold out for the entire weekend. Same for Regal Lincolnshire 20 & IMAX (Second closest to CHI), except for the 5:00AM and 1:30AM showing on Saturday and Sunday.

Re: The Dark Knight pre-sales and sellout watch
Quote: TORONTO - Advance ticket sales for "The Dark Knight" have broken a record and are closing in on $1 million, Cineplex Entertainment said Thursday.
"In the weeks prior to its opening we saw a surge in advance ticket sales and have scheduled additional screenings," said Cineplex president Ellis Jacob. The film was set to open at midnight Thursday night.
Hype for the Batman film has been fuelled by the accidental drug overdose death of Heath Ledger, who plays the Joker. The film has also received largely favourable reviews from critics.
http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/0807 ... ight_salesWoh it has already gotten like 1/9th or 1/10th of its opening weekend and it has not opened yet and this is only counting Cineplex theaters. So in Canada it has gotten 1/10th of the record opening weekend a day before it fully opens and from one theater chain.

Because, while it may seem crazy, if that number is 2500+, it could indeed challenge Sith. It seems to be outperforming HP5 (2nd biggest midnights ever), which had 2100 theatres show midnights, and it made 12M.
3000+ of Sith's 3600+ TC had midnights, BUT!, it couldn't fully max those midnight showings out due to opening in May and not in the middle of summer. So if a studio is able to get enough midnights for their movie in theatres, it's not impossible to beat. HP5 for instance probably could have challenged SIth's record if it would have had 3000 theatres show midnights like Sith. Nikki Finki reports that roughly 3,000 theaters will have midnight shows so.....yeah. Are you serious!? Because if that is true, or even close to the actual number, there's a very good chance it can challenge Sith.

Re: The Dark Knight pre-sales and sellout watch
There are an indescribable number of midnight sellouts around here. I've never seen anything like this.

Re: The Dark Knight pre-sales and sellout watch
I think The sellouts will be rather closer to Sith then we Think.
It has 1 million already from one cinema chain in Canada and midnight shows are not that popular here.
I think 12 million is assured and 16 million looks right.

While buying my tickets... EVERY person waiting in line was buying TDK tickets. Except for this one guy who kept asking people what "Meet Dave" was about...

I'm leaving my house at 9:30/9:45. I live about 5 minutes away.
Any later than 10:30... and your seats are going to suck.

My brother thinks going at 10 pm is riduculous. I think it's cutting it way too close, I'd go at 9 if everyone else was willing to.

Looking at everyones reports and tracking here i have to say that anything less than 15mill for midnights would be shocking.

Re: The Dark Knight pre-sales and sellout watch
That's 36,000 tickets an hour, or probably close to $330,000, assuming it's most adults in bigger cities buying in advance. This is surreal.

Re: The Dark Knight pre-sales and sellout watch
It's almost unfathomable that a sequel to a film that grossed "only" $205 Million could be challenging the biggest film franchise of all time. This is a game changer opening if there ever was one.
