Well it took a little longer than I thought, but we just sold out our first midnight show here at the Gateway 16 in Austin, TX. The main reason why we sold out so late was because we put 4 midnight shows up for sale at the same time, so I wouldn't be suprised if another one or two of the midnight shows sell out later today. We are waiting for the bookings to be confirmed before putting up our 5th and 6th midnight shows. We've already sold a few dozen to the 1am show and a few to the 2 and 3am shows. Along with the special group showing at 7:00pm, it's going to be madness at my theater THU night ;)

Midnight show #2 has now sold out ;)

5th midnight show now on sale

FRI 7:00pm is now sold out
The Westgate across town has sold out their first midnight show.

Midnight show #3 is now sold out

Midnight show #4 and #5 are now sold out.
Midnight show #6 (last one possible) is now on sale.
1am show #2 (last one possible) is now on sale.

EDIT: Oh geez, we just got permission to borrow a print from our smaller theater up north (first time ever that we borrowed a print), so midnight #7 is now on sale.

Midnight show #6 sold out last night.
The Wesgate across town has sold out their second midnight show.
I'm going to try to convince our neighbor Lakeline theater to lend us their second print, but it's probably too risky of a trip to take both of their prints, eh? ;)

My local theater has added 4 midnight showings in addition to its original, which is sold out. These ones aren't sold out yet though.

You are right.... Shows are selling out like crazy the more I look! I see about 50 sold out midnight shows in the Detroit metro area which is not quite what hp5 had but its 5 hours earlier in the day.

AMAZING UPDATE: We were able to swipe both our northern theater Lakeline's prints for tonight and we put midnight show #8 on sale. However, as of now, ALL 8 MIDNIGHTS ARE ALREADY SOLD OUT!!! Our theater across town, Westgate, have sold out all 3 of their midnight shows, and I don't think they can add anymore (maybe they can add a 4th possibly). We are maxed out here in Austin, TX. We also received news that we are currently ranked 7th in the chain for non-IMAX sales of Dark Knight. That's mighty impressive for a small market city! It's only a matter of time till our 1am shows start selling out. Oh my, I've seen nothing like this here! :whaa:

The theater next to ASU is completely sold out for all 8 of their showings at midnight... all that's left is the 3:30 showing... Luckily, the theater I'm going to, doesn't sell out in advance as quickly... though 2/8 are already sold out.

The Regal 20 in Augusta, GA has sold out all 5 of its midnight shows. I think that is more than what they sold out for Potter.

Any idea how many theatres are having midnight showings?

Because, while it may seem crazy, if that number is 2500+, it could indeed challenge Sith. It seems to be outperforming HP5 (2nd biggest midnights ever), which had 2100 theatres show midnights, and it made 12M.

3000+ of Sith's 3600+ TC had midnights, BUT!, it couldn't fully max those midnight showings out due to opening in May and not in the middle of summer. So if a studio is able to get enough midnights for their movie in theatres, it's not impossible to beat. HP5 for instance probably could have challenged SIth's record if it would have had 3000 theatres show midnights like Sith.

I actually live an hour south of these suburbs in the sleepy, Republican area of Illinois, but I use to live in Joliet, and still go there for the Junior College and UU church.

Post Re: The Dark Knight pre-sales and sellout watch
Sellouts aren't as crazy here, but Silvercity in the mall has still sold out its IMAX showings until Saturday night and a couple of midnight showings, and added a couple more.

The buzz here is insane though. This is the most I've heard people talking about a movie since Sith.

I actually live an hour south of these suburbs in the sleepy, Republican area of Illinois, but I use to live in Joliet, and still go there for the Junior College and UU church.

JJC!!!

:2thumbsup: How well do you know the college?

On topic, the 12:03 showing at the Bolingbrook theater sold out. I'll probably update the post closer to midnight.

Sam, any idea how many midnights the River East is up to?

Nikki Finki reports that roughly 3,000 theaters will have midnight shows so.....yeah.:nutso:
