Indie Movie Club- Sophie Scholl: The Final Days
By quite a margin, you guys have selected Sophie Scholl: The Final Days as the next film in this series! 2005 Academy Award Nominee for Best Foreign Language Film, Sophie Scholl - The Final Days is the true story of Germany's most famous anti-Nazi heroine brought to thrilling dramatic life. Sophie Scholl stars Julia Jentsch in a luminous performance as the fearless activist of the underground student resistance group, The White Rose. Armed with long-buried historical records of her incarceration, director Marc Rothemund expertly re-creates the last six days of Sophie Scholl's life: a heart-stopping journey from arrest to interrogation, trial and sentence in 1943 Munich. Unwavering in her convictions and loyalty to her comrades, her cross-examination by the Gestapo quickly escalates into a searing test of wills as Scholl delivers a passionate call to freedom and personal responsibility that is both haunting and timeless.

I have not seen the film, so I have nothing to say about it for the time being. But I'll get to it as soon as possible!

I'm going to practice listening to German when I watch it. That's pretty much why I voted for it, although I have heard it is a good movie from Lect and others, too.

I'm sorry I have been a terrible host, but life's been a bit on the hectic side lately. I will still definitely see it but possibly not til the end of the week. How are the rest of you guys doing with it? Hehe I'd hate to see this thread die. So until I see it maybe someone could be kind enough to lead the discussion on the film. Dr. Lecter??

As a companion piece try to watch also DIE WEISSE ROSE (The White Rose) from 1982. It's about the same story.

I hated this movie. It's so poorly written and directed. The weak performances don't help either.
