Good classic comedy. Nothing more.

Some great laugh out loud moments (mostly involving the camera)

Airplane A

Classic comedy, screw Superbad and Knoced Up. This is real comedy folks.

Swat C-
Mindless action that could have been so much more.

Italian job had a great story and better action and great actors like Edward Norton and a cameo by Sutherland.

Stop-Loss

Exceeded my expectations (which honestly were skeptical). This is actually a really great movie if not for anything else, then the issue it deals with.

Still wrestling with what grade to give it. B+/A-

August Rush: C+
Possibly the most contrived and predictable film I have ever seen, haha. I was supposed to watch for a screenwriting class (my professor wrote it). My friends and I were laughing the whole way through.

An Officer and a Gentleman: C+
I didn't get it. There was almost no point to the movie. It lacked a clear focus and the end did not make sense. They should have concentrated more on the other guy.

Rudy: B+/A-
Wasn't looking forward to watching it but of the 3 movies (all were assigned), I thought it was undoubtedly the best and I actually liked it. Very decent. Nothing extraordinary but just a simply great movie.

Yonker's Joe, a hopefully to be released in the fall (2008) film starring Chaz Palminteri, Christine Lahti and Micheal Lerner. Chaz plays Joe a two-bit hustler/gambler who's ever so close to perfecting the 'move' that will allow him to clean up at the craps tables in AC and Vegas. That is until Joe's 21yr old son Joe jr. who has Down syndrome is thrust upon him after being kicked out of his group home for beating up an orderly. What results is a touching drama about father/son relationships where both have to accept each other for who they are, with a little hustling/gambling thrown in for good measure. Look for this on the festival circuit this summer and then in theatres this fall.

Grade B+/A-

Watch Again, I felt the same at my first viewing. However, Rear Window does not have that great ICONIC or WOW moment like the other three Hitchcock films have. Psycho has the shower scene, North By Northwest has the airplane and Vertigo has that scene of either the Golden Gate Bridge or when Kim Novak reemerges as that Blonde in that Grey suit while Jimmy Stewart looks in awe.

I though North by Northwest was a bore and Then I watched it a 2nd time.

Psycho is so fast paced you cannot get bored.

I watched The Day the Earth Stood still.

A really weird boring film however the ending was so great and powerful I was almost blown away. It was like watching paint dry and then you get this great scene that has such a great message and it is still relevant today.

It's true that 'Rear Window' doesn't have a WOW moment. But personally I rank this thriller as Hitchcock's best. To date, it has some of the best set designs I have ever seen. Also the physical acting of the supporting cast is outstanding.

Last week I saw 'North by Northwest' for the 4th or 5th time, but that film starts to grow more on me. Possibly one of the best pre-James Bond 'action/adventures'.

Post Re: Grade The Last Movie You Watched
three movies I watched at the L.A. Film Festival

La France

A disappointingly aimless French World War I drama, where good acting and dialogue is brought down by weak character development and story progression, with an ending that says, "We really don't know how to end this."

C-

HottieBoombaLattie

Starring, written by, produced by, and directed by the same 25-year-old kid, this is a tamer version of "Superbad" - or maybe a funnier version of "Charlie Bartlett" - that is quite relatable if you ever felt like a social loner, especially during your high school years. It features some great wit, but manages to add the perfect dose of sentimental drama to make it a wholesome experience. It was completely independently made, but it looks just as professional as a movie like "Superbad," and I really hope it gets major distribution, because it deserves it.

A-

Winged Creatures

Featuring one of the best casts you'll find in a movie this year -- including Guy Pearce, Kate Beckinsale, Forrest Whitaker, Jennifer Hudson, Dakota Fanning, Josh Hutcherson, Embeth Davidtz, and Jackie Earle Haley -- all of whom deliver performances that range between good and brilliant (yes, Jennifer Hudson can actually act!!!) -- this drama is done in the often-seen multi-connected-stories style used in Magnolia, Crash, Syriana, Babel, and many others. I'd consider it one of the best of that sub-genre that I've seen, because for one, it actually connects these many stories extremely well through the event that takes place at the beginning of the film, and for another, because it focuses on the subtleties and many side-effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (all of these people witness a murder at a diner) instead of hitting you on the head with some universal message. Every member of the cast performs almost as well as, if not better, than I've ever seen them. Kate Beckinsale is quite believable as a troubled, single mom; Dakota Fanning handles a particularly tricky role (in which her character becomes unusually religious after witnessing her father's death) extremely well where for many actors it could've been a laugh-inducing performance; and Forrest Whitaker shows that his Oscar wasn't a fluke, portraying a man whose luck becomes very up-and-down after nearly getting killed. Throw in a quiet score that sets the film's mood perfectly and you've got a fantastic ensemble film worthy of recognition.

Very interesting billy

I read in your imdb version that you don't think it'll get Oscar recognition... is too edgy or something? Because normally I'd say it's exactly the type of film up their alley

Sunrise - 10/10
-I swear, this movie is strictly psychotic. The main character is a Travis Bickle for the silent era. Creepy, narcotic yet strangely, as honestly romantic as any film until Punch-Drunk Love came out.
