Oh my god, they killed Cheney!
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/ar ... Jan27.html
At yesterday's gathering of world leaders in southern Poland to mark the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, the United States was represented by Vice President Cheney. The ceremony at the Nazi death camp was outdoors, so those in attendance, such as French President Jacques Chirac and Russian President Vladimir Putin, were wearing dark, formal overcoats and dress shoes or boots. Because it was cold and snowing, they were also wearing gentlemen's hats. In short, they were dressed for the inclement weather as well as the sobriety and dignity of the event.
The vice president, however, was dressed in the kind of attire one typically wears to operate a snow blower.
Dick Cheney, apparently auditioning for the role of Kenny in "Southpark - The Live Action Movie."
Does anyone else find that it is just beyond ridiculous for anyone, let alone a paper of WP's stature, to be concerned with what Dick Cheney is wearing at the Auschwitz memorial? Of course, I could reduce myself to making a cheap shot at Vladimir Putin and Jacques Chirac and their respective countries' notorious antisemitic attitudes, but that would be low. Or would it?

Should have known what better? How to dress so as to appease those shallow enough to think of the attire instead of the anniversary?
I see this news story as a catharsis; the anniversary is deeply depressing, so let's try to look for something humorous in it. Cheney delivered \:D/

Cheney looks so out of place.
I also think it's fair to report. Cheney is representing the US, and his attire looks like he just doesn't care. As the article suggests, he looks like he just walked out his door to shovel snow.
As a matter of taste you should dress appropriately when your representing your country at an event like that, and Cheney should know better. I can't believe he thought that would be ok.

There is a photograph, from Dachau, post-liberation, of two former prisoners trying to kill a former camp guard with a shovel.
Has anyone seen that picture? I haven't.
And so I've heard that one of the immediate responses to the surrender of some of the guards was to shoot them point blank. So the desire to murder had crossed all boundaries then. I've known this, only, I didn't know it was so abrupt. I don't think I can get myself to the point of blaming them. I mean, technically it is murder, but the circumstances are extraordinary. And by extraordinary, I mean that, having suffered extraordinary fates, the response would be to reply with extra-ordinary (literally, extra-ordinary, as I doubt those people would try to kill others in normal circumstances) acts of trespassing.

Wow, that was quick. How did you reply so fast Krem?
This is extremely interesting and disturbing. Interesting because it gives an in sight into the immediate after-math of the Holocaust, and disturbing because it's proof of the de-humanizing effect of the event; if people respond to murder with murder, the level of trauma and apathy must be extremely high.

I googled the words Dachau and shovels...
Here's the page that has them: http://www.scrapbookpages.com/DachauScr ... illed.html
It says that those prisoners were drunk.

Google. I found:
I mean, come on...
If Cheney's clothes are inappropriate, what is this?
I know both are towns, but there are locations nearby (I was in the Mauthausen area; it has a number of towns around).

I agree. Although it's far from a big deal (and probably shouldn't be headline news like it is), Cheney did make an error in judgement here.

Btw, how does the prez pick people to represent him/the country at these events?
I mean, is there a rotation: Black Guy (P), Fat White Man (Ch), Scary Black Woman, Creepy War Guy, or He-Women (Albright, Reno, and so many many more).

That's kind of like showing up at a funeral in a clown suit.

What if it was a clown's funeral?

Cajuns celebrate the life of the person when they die. Thus not every funeral is a sad event there xorcist

Then, just for one last hurrah for ol' Chuckles the Clown, they would fit 13 other clowns into the casket, like a clown car. Fun would be had, but no tears would be shed.

You're the one telling me not to hold back my opinion, and scale it down so it isn't some PC-bullshit. Now I have to get specific with what kind of funeral I mean?

Na. I'm just saying that cajuns are cool. And don't get mad if somebody doesn't agree with your opinion, get be able to back what you have to say up and you'll be fine.

Luckily, I have no opinions on funerals, so I won't run into any problems. Time to start my latest thread of one-sided opinions (aka everyone against me).

Let it be stated that Krem is Russian \:D/
And wow, worse than Russian, eh? That's gotta sting.
