zennier wrote: roo has it right - as do others, im sure id learn if i were to read the thread - in that the beginning really is aces and the film slips up a little into the in. i've seen it three times and i'm willing to admit this, but i think that the production values and the real creativity behind things - brining *a garbage collector* to life and making it out to be one of the best damn film characters in ages - is really notable. i dig this movie, and i'll probably leave it with a slightly inflated grade (perfect). I've been thinking this movie over a LOT over the last week. Every time I think of how "weak" the second half is, I'm just reminded at how damn amazing Wall-E himself is and I forgive it and fall in love with it even more simply for the fact that Wall-E is in it. He is definitely one of the greatest cinematic characters of my lifetime, and he has an active vocabulary of....six words? Incredible. I don't think this should go down as Pixar's best film, but, along with the original Toy Story, it should definitely go down as their most important and most notable film. (So far, of course).

Going back to the animated films of the early 20th century, most cartoon characters were able to express sometimes complex emotions without words. My favorite animated film is Dumbo... says nothing. Bambi... whatever. Wall-E definately has expressions. Advanced, but not incredible in my estimation.

 Re: WALL-E
LOVED it as well as eveyone else. The Fred Willard thing could have been awkward, but it was done perfectly. It was an incredibly interesting story, enjoyed every aspect of it. Eve's voice was great as well as the captain.

 Re: WALL-E
the more I think about it, the more I hate the human aspect of the film...but if you isolate the Wall-E and Eve scenes, it is just so beautiful.

Eh?
Nah, not really "eh", as that implies indifference, which I definitely don't have. It's just that after a second viewing, in digital projection with sound that didn't go bad in the second half, I still feel as though I'm missing something. It's not bad, quite great actually, but I'm not feeling this "masterpiece!" talk that goes on and on. I still give it ***1/2, but I think that for me this is this year's There WIll Be Blood or Pan's Labyrinth...I get why people love it, but I just can't embrace it in that way?
Great either way, and definitely deserves more at the box office. Pixar has just done better.

 Re: WALL-E
Wall-E lived up to expectations but of course Pixar's amazing work helped the movie exceed these already high expectations. Wall-E may be the cutest character ever created in film history and the love story between Wall-E and Eve is probably the most touching in film history as well. Even when Wall-E is aboard the ship, the film doesn't leave its magical touch. The humans are a nice addition as well.
So in conclusion, Wall-E is the best Pixar film to date (beating last year's Ratatouille). Heck it is already an all-time fav of mine and will most likely stay there for a long time. Pixar has done it again!

I loved it, definitely. Best movie I've seen this year, without a doubt. But Ratatouille, Finding Nemo and The Incredibles are better Pixar films. Uum.. sorry? out of

A-.
Best Pixar film since Finding Nemo. Really liked the film. My only complaints were, I didn't like the shots at big business, thought the romance between wall-e and eve was underdeveloped and found the use of real actors annoying and distracting.
Loved everything else.

The WHOLE movie was about the romance... meh, underdeveloped. Perhaps Jim was hoping for the traditional Disney denoument in which proud mama and papa are watching their offspring tumble across the screen, with some looking like ma and some looking like pa and some a mix of the two...

It was good. It wasn't the second coming or anything. Not the best film of the year. A-ish? Yeah. The first half is A+ material. The second half is B material. Then the humans show up and it gets preachy and well... bad. Er well... not the greatest, not bad. Maybe just generic. Anything involving Wall-E directly is great, but his cuteness doesn't cover up all of the flaws and head scratching I did about the plot of the humans. I still find Finding Nemo more emotional and The Incredibles more intelligent. Finding Nemo is by far my Pixar favorite. There isn't anything even comparable to it at all, really.

 Re: WALL-E
I was never on the Wall-E hype train. I assumed I'd enjoy the film because it's Pixar, but had reservations because of Cars (utter balls) and because the trailers didn't really do anything for me (not as much an issue, being as Pixar's trailers rarely do anything for me).
That said, I've just seen it and... wow. It really is bloody brilliant. Top to bottom. If anything, I actually preferred the scenes in space to Earth.
