So you think that there's nothing in the movie which regular Joe-Jabbas might not like? Wall-E never really criticized obese people per say. It seemed more like a jab on capitalism by saying that it was the big companies in the name of profit that were making society fat and sedentary. If anything Wall-E gave the obese people another excuse for being so out of shape. The audience that would be offended by such a silly thing wouldn't understand that. Pretty sad if that's true. I thought the social commentary in Wall-E was one of it's biggest strengths.

Same reason why films like King Kong and Charlotte's Web didnt do too well. Americans hate the concept of championing a character thats the underdog and is not of human in nature because they find it too preachy in some aspects especially when its going against mankind in general

Re: KJ & Wall-E: What Went Wrong?
It's not going to offend many obese people, except for those easily offended. If it does offend, it might be for the more general reason that it says humans are mostly weak puppets who depend on machines to run their lives ultimately and are incapable of sustaining themselves. A little too close to the truth for some maybe.
It's just not a particularly pop culture-friendly film. There's a lot of desolation, and only one mildly salvageable human character. The Pixar flix so far have had loads of vibrant human/like characters, action, and comedy. And though there is a good love story (between non-living things), this probably has the weakest element of "family" of any Pixar film. Again, this is like an art film for Pixar.

I feel that in this fast-burn film culture people put too much emphasis on every days figure for the first frame.
Wall-E Will have legs no matter what happens, and anything over $200m for the movie is just excellent.

$200m would be excellent for Wall-E. I mean, lets be realistic.

Too bad $250 is the minimum.

it looks like WallE won't beat the opening week of Nemo. Awww. If they only opened higher.
