Was just looking at a cool site, and thinking of some bands from where I've lived.

Anyone have favorites that are under the radar?

In nyc I can tout that Pat McGuire Band is amazing...

Oh I know a ton from back in Chicaho, unfortunately my brother here is not into live music (just dance music) so he doesn't have the inside scoop on anything. He also wouldn't go with me, so I feel bad dragging him around. I'm starting to meet some new people, but mostly I think we've been going to conviently located night spots (because living on other side of town, etc) and I haven't really started learning the live scene here all that much. Live music is very hit or miss, depending on the band and the venue. Any good NYC suggestions?

Anyone who needs suggestions for either Boston or especially Chicago, if I can't give you band names I can at least give you notorious venues.

Also, good dj's? I know alot here for "mood" music and dance music, but not so much for specific styles and nights. Blues Dj's or my fave, Rock-a-billy dj's (wow, my crappy taste never ceases to even impress me).

I can't say I've heard of either of those? Are they fusions that mix rockabilly/blues and dj music or other?

I haven't gotten to many clubs lately, but love Blue Note (if you have the $) and Pat McGuire Band (plays on lower e side) is amazing..

neither...I'm not that creative...i just meant there are some dj's out there that have either a blues or rock-a-billy theme for the night (vs. trying to fish around in jukeboxes, etc). smetimes they'll pseed it up a bit or add a bit more bass, but mostly the songs are straight of the records. I never had a particularly adept ear or sense of rythm, which is probably why i just like good old fashioned vocals. :grin:

anyways, by Blue Note do you mean blue note records? as in that's what gets spun there? or is it a place that does live blues? I really love a good live blues place, but don't know any here. And what does Pat McGuire Band sound like (what style)? I'm in the lower east side so it shouldn't be too hard for me to find a place they're playing at listed in the reader.

that's the site to go for local bands. I go to local shows all the time, I've got a friend in a band so I wind up seeing all their shows.

not sure of any blues ones offhand, though I'm sure they abound.

blue note is the famous jazz club down on W 4th...great ambience.
