Beverly Hills Cop 4 to be rated R!
So says Ratner http://www.latinoreview.com/news/exclus ... ed-pg-4947I know many here say that the rating doesn't really matter, but it at least matters as much as considering that they are not willing to go for compromises.

I don't care if I am the only person excited about this but I am stoked. I am a huge fan of Beverly Hilsl Cop I and II, I hated 3 but here is hoping Eddie can bottle up Axel Foley one more time...and make it good.

Take the swears out and it's an absolutely tame movie even moreso than the first one was (and that's not a knock at the first one). This is great news though, just so long as this doesn't happen. Quote: So there it is, straight from the horse's mouth. If Ratner says it's going to be 'R' rated, then barring studio interference, we can look forward to Axel Foley swearing it up like a mofo. Though I don't really think Paramount would do that to one of their most loved franchises. I don't see them pulling a 20th Century Fox.

The imdb poll of what 4th sequel you want to see had BH4 almost ranking dead last behind RH4 even Mad Max 4 was ahead of it. I dont think the demand would be there and the R rating confirms it much

Magnus wrote: I really don't think this will be that big. Remember, the third one did horrible at the BO. It may do 100m at most. You have to take into account though where Eddie Murphy was in his career at that point. Between 1988 (Coming to America) and 1996 (The Nutty Professor), his films weren't exactly well liked. He had a couple of decent sized hits in there with Boomerang and Another 48 Hours, but he wasn't exactly the Eddie Murphy of 1988. I think by the time the third one came out people needed a break. The TV spots and trailers also didn't help as they made the film just seem boring (I think they're on the DVD). So if the film were to make $100 million now 16 years later, well that'd be absolutely fantastic. I think it's possible though that it could make much more than that (slightly less than Live Free or Die Hard numbers) if they make a great teaser. That and they need to get Judge Reinhold and John Ashton back. I don't think that'll be rather difficult at this point. I think most people at this point have forgotten about the third one. And it also helps that Eddie Murphy is more popular than he was in 1994. But it'll be interesting to see where he stands after the one-two punch of Norbit and Meet Dave.

Re: Beverly Hills Cop 4 to be rated R!
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/37304Okay, so, now that Ratner's intent & timetable seems to be properly aligned...how'll this play with Eddie Murphy?
Extra's website posted a brief interview with Murphy yesterday in which he said he was thinking about leaving film & going back to stand-up after the release of MEET DAVE this Summer.
"I have close to fifty movies and it's like, why am I in the movies?" he said, adding, "I've done that part now. I'll go back to the stage and do standup."
When asked about appearing in the previously announced BHC 4, Murphy indicated he didn't want to be in it because...
"the movie wasn't ready to be done."
Fuck yeah! I hope he doesnt do BHC4 now and he goes back to stand up, that would fucking rule!

Re: Beverly Hills Cop 4 to be rated R!
Same day, different story: http://extratv.warnerbros.com/2008/06/eddie_murphy_retiring.php"Meet Dave" star Eddie Murphy is dishing to "Extra's" Tanika Ray about leaving the movie business for good after the release of his latest film. "I have close to fifty movies and it's like, why am I in the movies?" he said, adding, "I've done that part now. I'll go back to the stage and do standup."
Murphy, 47, said that while a "Beverly Hills Cop 4" flick was in the works, he didn't want to do it, because "the movie wasn't ready to be done." Murphy said he agreed to do "Cop 3" because of the large fee he was offered. "They said this is how much we're going to pay you. I said, 'let's go shoot it! I don't care if the script ain't right."So on the one hand we have Ratner saying BHC4 will be R-Rated, and Murphy saying he's not doing it anymore.

Well he has 5 more projects for 2009/2010 according to imdb and 4 in development projects. Shrek 5 was announced and it's not listed on imdb, so that's one more project for him.

Yeah, as much as I'd like to believe this is Eddie taking stock of his life and career and realising something's gone horribly wrong... it's more likely this is just a bargaining tool for more money.

Re: Beverly Hills Cop 4 to be rated R!
huh. Wasn't there all this fuss that it was gonna be PG? I'm glad to hear this...dunno if it'll be a BO hit (could peak out a bit under $100m), but at least it could be a solid flick.
