here's my question: does the film get very emotional/tear-inducing towards the end? It seems like the kind of film perfect for that, but the trailers really haven't presented it as a film that's gonna make you cry, as much as a science-fiction romantic dramedy.

An issue presents itself during the 3rd act that screams "cry."

There's a reason for all the ET comparisons.
Hmm, people don't seem to be a huge fan of the 3rd act, but when movies get all ET-y, that's a really really really good thing in my book. I might just fall in love with this movie, since the parts that I thought I wouldn't like were the Earth scenes, but those are supposedly the best parts of the movie.

There is no way any kid would find the first twenty minutes boring. You hardly even notice the lack of dialogue and before you know it, EVE shows up.

This is a disgustingly heartwarming movie that I didn't find slow at any point. Yes, it's very "take care of the Earth!" but it doesn't take away from the action and story. My only objection is to something at the very end.
Spoiler: show
I think it would have been much more poignant, though very unDisney if Wall-E had not woken up suddenly. It would have been all Jack and Rose. But I guess the fact that I actually thought there was a chance of that happening in a Disney movie (I really really thought it was going to) says a lot about how good a job they did at getting the emotion across.

No, I'm not going to call it the best movie ever. But it was, without question, the best experience I have ever had at a movie theater.

I'm so jealous of everyone who has yet to see it. You're in the for the experience of a lifetime.

It wasn't completely flawless, but there were no issues big enough to merit taking away from Pixar's achievement here. There utter disregard for what a major, blockbuster studio should do is the most commendable trait of any studio working in the industry.

The scenes on earth are some of the best ever in film (also the bit in open space). They take you back to Chaplin and Woody Allen's most humorous, yet ultimately poignant moments.

P.S....the closing credits are genius.

I cried within the first ten minutes, during the open space bit and at the end.
Don't let us Pixar fanboys scare you off...this is an experience you will never have again.

Spoiler: show
i wasn't even sad. I was just ... depressed .. you know? I had thought of every single possibility of bad ends and was prepared for them. But not the possibility of that. I felt a hush come over me. Which is why i didn't mind the Disneyish 'lets fix things by making it look like Wall-E finished a cold reset at the exact moment Eve tried to let go".

My only read issues with the movies were 2:

If AUto (that was his name right) never wanted the humans to return, why did he try to show the captain that an Eve may have returned with something. Isn't it better to never mention it and get rid of it? They did that anyway. Only explanation would be to make that Eve unit believe she messed up somewhere but then again Eve's directive was only getting the plant up there, anything further was none of her business.

Lack of character building on the humans towards the end. Not that i wanted it anyway but if they were all going to stand up, feel sorry for Wall-E, help out in returning to earth, one would feel it wouldn't happen so abruptly. it would have been better if they left all the humans feeling clueless and helpless while they were getting thrown around, with the captain and those other 2 somehow fighting back.

But meh ... who cares. the movie, was AWESOME!

The funniest scene was when Wall-E thought Eve was getting dismembered.

The most beautiful scene was both of them in space. Trust Pixar to make a romance movie that melts your heart. and still keep it compeltely G!

Those Fs should be removed. There is no way anyone unbiased would give this film an F. It's just vitriol.

We removed them for Ratatouille, why can't we remove them for Wall-E?

If F's are removed for this film, they should be for ALL films unless there is a review to match it. The end.

Caught a showing at 11:00 today, maybe not the best idea because of all the screaming tots in the audience...

I loved it. bABA's second comment about what he didn't find exactly fitting was a concern of mine as well as I watched that scene develop, but it didn't take away from the movie at all. I'll admit, I almost cried at two points in the movie, and I probably would have if it wasn't for my stone-faced 14-year-old brother sitting next to me, who would have never let me forget the experience. I definitely need to see it again.

You seem to have overllooked the major flaw in your argument, which is that you are trying to apply logic to Bradley.

Leaving to see this in 40 minutes... :wub2:

Oh, and an added note: I'm 95% sure the projector guy fucked up the screen, because it was never properly mounted until the movie finally began, and even at that point, it seemed like everything was stretched a little bit vertically. Another reason why I definitely need to see this again.

I think that was because his directive was only to not all the humans to go back to earth. He didn't know the plant would lead to that, until they read the manual.

We wont change any grades.

People, read the reviews in actual posts, screw the polls. Its fairly obvious that Wall-E in this case has enourmous support here, so enjoy that, and just forget those Fs in poll.
