All my stocks and funds are in the entertainment business so they are doing OK (not great). I figure that no matter how bad the economy, people will still go to movies, watch TV, read magazines, and play video games...

Smart move, Groucho. Look at how huge entertainment was in the 30s.

Where is the money everybody is losing going?

Right into my pocket! Seriuosly people, invest right and this is the time to get RICH! Besides, SELL SELL SELL and buy in a few months when everything absurdly low...now is the time to invest!

I don't think this round of selling has finished yet. The volumn is actually pretty low, not an indication of a bottom yet. We could touch 11,000 in Dow before rebounding, especially if the oil continues to rise.

I'm just glad my company has done relatively fine the last several months, although my other investment has been pretty much shit.

I'd be more concerned than just a dip in the stock market. This whole globalized capitalism world we've gotten used to in the last 20 years has been during a period of rock-bottom oil prices. It'll be interesting to see how this massive outsourcing of manufacturing survives the big rise in transportation and other costs. When the price to ship one cargo container from China to the U.S. or Europe triples, what happens then?

Companies move back to the USA. BMW, Mercedes and others are investing billions into new factories i the US. Reverse globalization will actually help the US. Let's pray the price of oil keeps going up.

That's assuming that we wouldn't be in deep shit due to tripling prices anyway. Or that there wouldn't be long-term consequences to shipping out of newly industrializing countries.

GM's stock price is lowest in 46 years (that's as far back as Yahoo will go).

$12 a gallon? That'd have way more an impact that just shooting up prices for devices that make pancakes and rub our balls. The prices will probably sharply drop before returning to $4.25-ish and higher, but we aren't being too smart with energy, to say the least.

Ok, that might have come out wrong. For the sake of innovation in renewable energy, and increased cost of doing business in China, let's hope the price of oil keeps going up. I will gladly stomach it if it means more high paying manufacturing jobs for the USA.

More high-paying manufacturing jobs in USA -> fewer people enrolling in college ->fewer innovations in the future related to renewable energy -> more usage of oil -> even higher gas prices.

Never underestimate the law of unintended consequences.

And if we replaced oil, the Middle East would become a big, smoking bowl of shit, far worse than now. If we don't, well...

Not everyone in this world is meant to go to college. Many people don't go to college and end up working at Wal mart or driving trucks. It's better having these dropouts work in high paying skilled labor than stocking shelves somewhere. Your argument is completely flawed.
