Thanks! It's from here, and the image comes from the movie 2046. BTW, have you seen In the Mood for Love?

I'm not going to make a full list (I don't wanna!), but here are some of my predictions and some possible upsets:

- I'm still going for Hotel Rwanda over Ray for best picture. I think Hackford will take a best director nomination in place of that, though.
- I'm jumping on the Zhang Yimou train. (weeeee!!!)
- I wouldn't rule out Bad Education, especially in the screenplay category. Same for Before Sunset.
- I wouldn't rule out Kinsey either. Laura Linney's a shoo-in, as is the screenplay, but I think either Liam Neeson or Peter Sarsgaard will be getting something. Or, I dunno. I could just be dumb.

I'm so excited. :D

I have. I thought it was an excellent movie. Perhaps an A-, I need to re-watch it though, I've only seen it once when it first came out. I own the soundtrack too, its excellent.

Based on what Xia just told me I would switch up Yimou for Almodovar. Not for quality (Everyone knows what I thought that is not the point) But because Hero was released so late here that judges are going to either be Yimou-ed out or they are going to have let-down from the former to the latter because the critics seemed to have done that as well.

Here's a thought, does Gael Garcia Bernal finally get a nod in one of the acting categories with Diaries and Education out this year?

They're not going to nominate Almodovar for one simple reason. They already nominated him for Talk to Her and even awarded Best Screenplay to him for that one. THey are not going to give him another split nom, I think.

Yimou is very likely because of the Hero/House of Flying Daggers pair. Mostly because of Hero which didn't have a chance to get nominated for anything... so the Academy members might make up for it, by nominating Yimou for HOFD.

What about I call Tarantino gets snuck into the final Best Director spot for Kill Bill? I think it'll happen the same way they tipped hats at Altman and Lynch a few years back because their films weren't main stream enough but their respective direction styles were still acknowledged.

I think the problem was that A Very Long Engagement was released too late in France.

Any idea why Moolaade is not eligible?

Well, I strongly hope you are right, Kill Bill deserves at least some recognition.

But something tells me, Kill Bill won't get a single nom at these awards.

Considering that he made four movies in the last 28 years, you're right, Dolce.

He's done more actually, and a total of 13 in about 4 decades. He's written three novels as well, and is pretty much (or in the book I'm reading) considered the First International sub-Sahara Black African director to deal with African content, etc. Think about it though...I know at least up through The Money Order (1968-1970) all the film he shot had to be shipped between Senegal and Paris to be developed and then mailed back. Then put together and new scenes re-shot, and then mailed again. (The process sometimes took up to a month). Its not the same now, and apparently Senegal has produced the most cinema out of any African country, but I still have no idea why this wouldn't have been eligable?

I know that he made more movies, I just meant that he has not been very productive lately. Just like Terrence Malick...

I know why most foreign movies are not eligible this year, but no clue about Moolaade.

Maria Full of Grace - it was not Colombian" enough apparently
Bad Education - Spain submitted The Sea Inside instead
A Very Long Engagement - released in France too late
Hero - already nominated a couple of years ago
The Motorcycle Diaries - Country of origin couldn't be exactly determined (financed by multiple countries)

Too many countries maybe? I know Maria Full of Grace was ruled ineligible even though Columbia submitted it because it was deemed not Columbian enough, and that's a shame since it's No. 2 on my 2004 list, and I would have little problem to see it winning foreign film. I'm hoping for surprises in the morning, but I'll be very upset if that comes in the form of Catalina Sandino Moreno. It deserves a screenplay nod too.

I may actually pull an all-nighter tonight because I really really want to see the Federer/Agassi match live at 12:30am PST. I also see how long I can stay.

Someone should give me a call at 5:30am.

Whenever predicting Tarantino, it's very important to remember that he is not a member of the Director's Guild.
