Words and phrases you don't like
Like most people, there are certain words and phrases that really get on my nerves. So I started this thread in hopes that a movement can be started to end the use of these offending words/phrases. Maybe I'm ripping of George Carlin, so sue me.
"Lifeblood" I'm not sure what it is about this word that really burns me, but something in it does. Perhaps its that the phrase makes no sense. First of all its a compound word. Thats the lazy man's way of coining new words. Second, the individual words "life" and "blood" don't necessarily go together. A thing can be alive without having any blood. For example, a plant. Its alive, yet it has no blood. Finally, people and companies use the word to give importance to what they are saying. A person might say "after school activities are the lifeblood of our community." What the hell does that mean? Anyway, I just hate that word.
"That said" This phrase seems to have come about fairly recently. Perhaps it was developed (perfected?) during the early days of internet publishing. Well I hate the word. How about a traditional "but" or "on the contrary"? The phrase "that said" is used frequently. Perhaps the author assumes that I am an idiot and did not actually read what he previously wrote and am jumping into his narrative midstream. If thats the case, then maybe the author should have been more clear. Otherwise, stop using this idiotic phrase.
Perhaps I can think of more later.

"I know, right?" I agree with you. Do you agree with yourself?

I have always loathed the word "gyrate." Everytime I hear it, its like that feeling you get one someone runs their nails over a chalkboard. That's how much a cringe when I hear it, and its been like that at least since I was in highschool. I have no idea why.

Some more:
Anyways. THERE IS NO S IN ANYWAY! Pisses me off.
Utilize. There is never a time, place or situation where "use" would not work just as well or better than "utilize." (This is a prejudice I picked up from my Freshman Comp teaching mother.)

Granted.
I despise this wordbecause a creepy guy at work would say this at every opportunity possible, only he'd say it wrong and say granite instead.

"Like"
You know, like saying like in a sentence... Like I just did.
Honestly, it's said so often, you probably don't even know you use it.

I've never liked the words "husband" and "daughter". Which means I'm never getting married or having a girl.

"Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory." Maybe because it's an election year, but it's an over-used and annoying phrase.

I never got why men never realize that that which is obvious to them is already more obvious to women.

Evidently, the damage you incurred is in excess of the pain you felt.

I hate Gnome Sane.
So we was walking down the street, gnome sane? And we saw this store, gnome sane? And there was this guy inside, gnome sane?
YES!! Yes, I know what you are saying. You don't have to ask me. I understand the language.

YES!! Yes, I know what you are saying. You don't have to ask me. I understand the language. Very similar to this, my brother ends every sentence with 'you know what i mean?'. After the 7th time i usually have to punch him in the face and shout I HAVE A BASIC GRASP OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE, I KNOW WHAT YOU EFFING MEAN.
