I got rid of it. It didn't remove the spyware that keeps hijacking my IE. I don't use IE anymore, but it pisses me off that it's still there. Even after I've used all that softwae listed above (and others), it's still there.

You have to do it in Safe Mode!
Otherwise, the software knows that you tried to get rid of it, and will simply reinstall itself.

But I've tried to do it upon loading (well, before it loads).
Ok, let me give it yet another try.

Safe mode is the only safe (pardon the pun) bet.

I am sure you can download it using firefox, but we were actualyl discussing it (albiet briefly) in my OS class, one of the students in class had used it before (I don't think it was this release, I think it was an early not released to the public version), and the one used started off by checking if IE was your default browser.
I am always suspect of Microsoft's security stuff, its very up and down. I'll weight and see what the reception on this is before I go installing it. I am quite happy with the products I use now.

*chuckles*
That is alwasy the running joke when someone calls us CS people for help with viruses, we go "ok, jsut put down the porn, we'll be right over."
If people would give up P2P networks and porn, they'd be alot better off..or atleat be smart about those things.

Actually, it's quite easy to avoid viruses from P2P and teh pr0n. You just have to have a basic knowledge of P2P - like don't download a file named 500 different things by 500 different people. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't have that basic understading of P2P before jumping head in. A person could make a killing selling some kind of P2P guide.

I was thinking this same thing when going through this thread, BJ.
loyal, just buy a Mac. Judging by your ridiculous DVD collection, you seem to have a lot of disposable income, and with enough $ you can buy a Mac that runs laps around a PC as far as performance goes. I'm in the process of saving up for a Mac right now, actually.

I might get a MAC next, if my latest replacement system from Dell is defective as my other two have been (thank goodness they aren't charging me).

Yes it very easy to avoid viruses from P2p netowrks, don't use them.
I have more then the basic knowledge of a P2P, I spend my time teaching people exactly how it works. By naure, the way it works makes your computer more vulnerable to viruses.
The only time i have ever gotten a virus is when I let other people use my computer, which is why I rarely let other people use it.

MS Antispyware actually used to be GIANT Antispyware until 2 months ago; Microsoft bought that company, because it had the best product on the market (they charged for it), and released it for free. I doubt Microsoft had the time to release several different versions of it for private use.
I haven;t bothered to download it and look at it yet, I have Spy Sweeper, which I have always been rather happy with.
I'll have to check out the Microsft one on my office computer which lacks an anti-spyware software, and there is nothign worse then a comptuer hooked up to a college network without anti-spyware/anti-virus software.
What versions of windows does it support?

To do that, shut down your computer, then power it back on. As it's powering up start hitting the F8 button. A menu will come up asking you to select which mode to start in. Select Safe Mode. None of the hijacker programs will load, and that will allow Ad-Aware to clean up your computer, without the possibility that the bugs will come back.
Also, do give Microsoft Anti-=spyware a chance. I found it to be much better than the competition. well... i can understand why some people don't want to download the microsoft one .... notice the verification thing : ) Hehe, I know. But in truth, it lets you download it without verification. Of course, the real solution is to not pirate the software. You're not a pirate, are you baba?
who me!?!?!?

Obviously Mac's aren't immune to viruses. They just don't get them because no one bothers to write them for it, which makes them immune in a weird sort of way.
As for P2P's, all I know is that i've been using them for years now and I have never gotten a virus. I download teh p0rn liberally, too.

Windows 2000 and XP. It works pretty much like a an anti-virus, in that it runs in the background to prevent any changes to IE/windows internals and it auto-updates with new definitions.
