I'll buy it on Monday and have an opinion for you by Tuesday at the latest!

That is, so long as a certain rainbow flag finds it's way into my lap...

Aww...so if you don't get the flag you won't watch the movie? Its a very colorful movie, so maybe it could be a comforting substitute for Rod's flag?

 He is not a hottie!!

Yes he is. Some of y'all can't spot sex appeal if it was dangled in front of you in a form other than women's lace undergraments.

Your saying Jennifer Garner is attractive has little to do with my not taking your opinion seriously. Your attraction to that manly jawed, freakishly skulled celebrity is merely the cherry on top of the cupcake of disappointment you've baked over the years.

Look at my avatar. I think Kiefer is the only guy who I would actually say "Hey, he don't look too bad"... *looks around... runs away*

aaaah, excellent post.

to answer x's thread, the simplest answer is:
things are not fair bet men and women.

take anything, any social situation that's somewhat 'questionable',
if a man does it, it's wrong,
if a women does it, it's perfectly okay.

there's no explanation for this;
u don't have to like it, u just have to accept it...

It just won't work. That's like finding a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. You can always get one step closer to it, but you're never going to quite get there. Keep trying though...the attempt is endearing in of itself.

And if you can;t accept it, you still have to live with it, so there.

X, you know, I actually think that within the wider context, men get off more easily.

Consider:

Man who sleeps around: stud

Woman who sleeps around: slut

---

Man who has a great sexual appetite: virile

Woman who has a great sexual appetite: nymphomaniac.

Western culture, as well as Eastern and Middle Eastern, is very much patriarchal. Men come first, and women are measured up against them (to the women's disadvantage).

Do you know what slut originally meant?

It was a synonym for 'girl'.

As such, it appears in Alice in Wonderland, where Alice is referred to as a 'slut'. I think the current editions have taken care to remove that from the novel :)

The FCC would like to inform you that a small demographic of women aged 55-57 find the word "damn" offensive, and would like to suggest using a phrase such as "Darn", "Dang", "Dagnabbit", and "Diggity Dog".

A large demographic of men and women that work for the FCC would also like to inform you that we wish you would change "FCC" to "All of those people who use excessive vulgar language, that could harm the youth of the nation, the prudes of the world, and the senior citizens of the 'old folks' homes." We apologize for any inconvenience.

Women like being right. They LOVE being better than men too.
Furthermore, any real acts of sterotypical male behaviour gives women the right to trample all over our asses.

I.E, saying anything mildly chauvanistic like "Get back in the Kitchen and make me a pie" :D incites a fury from women that i cannot comprehend. They KNOW its a joke intended to not-so-sublty sound totally pigheaded, yet they feel the need to go off on some self-righteous one up. Furthering the sudden "Sex and the City" or "Desperate Housewives" style revolt amoungst women who now think that using and abusing men or controlling their partners is normal and endearing.
Thanks alot Bree...

The irony is that yes indeed most girls seem to spend all their time pining over men - checking out guys and commenting on their looks - but scolding men for doing the very same thing. Basically, women have the upper hand in the world, and they like to use it. If that means giving men into trouble for...being men, then thats fine. Because lets face it, men are gross #-o

Plus saying a girl is hot around a girl that likes you is a super-bad idea, it launches her into a super-frenzy of attacking the random celebrity/friend you mentioned was hot and in the end has a heart failure with the crazed rant shes driven herself into, interjecting with "You dont think im like that one out of mean girls do you?" or "Man i need to lose weight". My personal favourite interjection has to be the one i hear every day at lunch from a friend at college being "Do you think im as fat as Her?" to which i reply - no, but your as deep as a puddle.

But im sterotyping here slightly , im mentioning the larger segment of women - ive got alot of female friends who dont give a shit about who i perv on, and are far from the sterotypical girls such as those in my college class.

As sad as it is, it is true (not right, but true nonetheless). I witness things like that all the time in my life. Friends of mine calling some girls from my school sluts because they sleep with many guys, even though they sleep around at least just as much themselves...

On a related topic of the difefrence between the sexes, I once heard a comedian make the following observation:

Men are attracted to looks whereas women are attracted to power. This explains why Mick Jagger has so many groupies. If he was a cab driver, he wouldn't get a second look. It doesn't work the same for men. There are no men saying "That Rosanna babe, she's really hot."

I guess it just varies from place to place, and situation to situation. Like Joey from Friends. Why is it that no one ever called him a "man-whore?" He must have had sex with 20 women a season, multiply that by ten seasons and you get a hell of a lot of women.

As for X's question, I have been hit with the same problems. Not with my current girlfriend, but past one's. Let's just say I've learned from my mistakes. It's definently better to keep your mouth shut about things like that and learn to just let her win, because you're never gonna. I'm sure my girlfriend wouldn't care if I thought a celeb were hot, but she would care if I saw a woman on the street and said she was hot. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that you'll never get near the celeb, but who knows about the girl on the street. So maybe women see it as a sign that you want out or want something new. But heck, what do I know.

But that's precisely what X is trying to do by starting this thread, gather info so he can improve himself.

Chris has hit it closest to the target so far. :)

A woman's greatest fear is that her man will leave her. So if a man says somebody is hot, that's a threat. If (for example) Jennifer Garner were to walk in the room, the guy's sex drive would kick in so hard that he would drop his loyal lady and run for Jenny without a second thought. So if a woman sees the man lusting, she gets scared and lashes out in anger. BTW, the fear that her man will leave her isn't irrational or baseless at all. Men cheat and have mistresses all the time.

On the other side, a woman is much less likely to leave a man. The man knows this, and the woman knows that the man knows this. Therefore, a woman feels okay about joking about (for example) Brad Pitt. She knows she can do this because she knows her man won't be scared.

In other words, a man lusting after a hot girl is the more serious offense, because he is more likely to carry it out. To be fair, the tables are starting to turn somewhat. Women are publicly lusting after guys as payback -- to give men a taste of their own medicine. Even then, it's still as threatening as when the men do it.

On another note, it's ALWAYS more threatening to both parties if the hot person is somebody the couple knows rather than a celebrity.
