 The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Quote: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is a superhero film adaptation loosely based on characters from the comic book limited series The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen by Alan Moore, who is also famous for Watchmen, V for Vendetta, and From Hell. It was released on July 11, 2003, in the United States, and distributed by 20th Century Fox. It was directed by Stephen Norrington and starred Sean Connery, Naseeruddin Shah, Peta Wilson, Tony Curran, Stuart Townsend, Shane West, Jason Flemyng, and Richard Roxburgh.
It is an action adventure film set in the late 19th century, featuring an assortment of fictional literary characters appropriate to the period, who act as Victorian Era superheroes. It draws on the works of Jules Verne, H. G. Wells, Bram Stoker, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, H. Rider Haggard, Ian Fleming, Herman Melville, Oscar Wilde, Robert Louis Stevenson, Edgar Allan Poe, Gaston Leroux, and Mark Twain, albeit all adapted for the film. The plot and general atmosphere are very far from those of the original comic book.
The film was intended to spawn a film franchise based on further titles in the original comic book series. Although financially successful, it was critically panned, and there was little enthusiasm for a sequel.

Rotten. One of the worst times I've had in theatres. Ranks up there with The Avengers.

Boring, bland, and overall bad. Shoddy FX, terrible writing, and only semi-decent characters. C

Re: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Quite possibly one of the five worst films ever made. I loathed everything about this disaster, and it's one of the only films I'd award a rare F to without question.

Nice visual style and cool concept...but terrible execution. It's a pity Connery's last film was this drivel.

Such great potential... and then... it just gets stupid. I so much wanted to like this, but 20 minutes in, I picked up a magazine and hardly paid attention.

3/10 -> D-
I started to watch this movie in order to complete the list for UMMIII. It started out good, but it got horrible real soon. It took me three days to finish the movie.

I didn't have a problem with it. Not reading the comic or whatever its from, it was serviceable, with a concept that was so interesting it was certainly generic though.

I was 13 when I last saw it but from what I remember I didn't have that big of a problem with it. Just a middle ground blockbuster type.

Re: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
There's a reason it forced Sean Connery into retirement.
When even thompsoncory hates it, you know it's bad.

Re: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
I really want to defend this goofy, fun romp. It's messy, but I found it very entertaining. In fact, I saw it four times in theaters back when I was 14! Then again, I haven't seen it since, so I'll need to rewatch it before I make too definitive of a remark...

Yeah while it ended up being "the other, worse adventure blockbuster" next to Pirates in '03, it certainly entertained me and was watchable enough as pulp dumb blockbuster at the time. I liked Connery and the Invisible Man

I liked Connery and the Invisible Man I liked the shot where the one measly security guard looks over, and sees bats, the huge hulking shoulder of Mr. Hyde etc. His facial expression indicated, "Aww fuck."

Re: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
I liked the first scene with connery, and that gun-fight, that's it. I hate the rest with an unending passion, based on my 13 year old opinion, if I watched it again I'm pretty sure I would kill myself halfway through.

I am very much with Shack and MovieDude on this one. Trashy? Yes, but more entertaining than many summer blockbusters.

Halfway through this and im in the Arthur Shack Moviedude camp. It has its flaws but its a fun romp. Also I knew once I read thompsoncory ripping it that it had potential that lad is like a robot with his grades.

I'll admit the SFX is shoddy thought.

No, he should jump right on the bandwagon of films like this, were the most unrealistic adventures of all time take place, and then they try to make a big deal over some old jackass daying. Of course his grave would start shaking. I honestly thank god every night that this film failed hard and they couldn't make a sequel of it, if I ever had to even see 2 seconds of a trailer of this shit again I would probably vomit on the spot. This is almost as bad as jumper, one of the worst movies I've seen ever.
