Snrub wrote: As to disabling my router and taking it down to out-of-the-box settings, I'm reluctant to do so as, at present, it's spoofing my laptop's MAC address, which is the only reason I can get my PC to connect to the internet at all. Once I reset it, I have no idea how to do it again. This is likely the overall problem. The reason why I would have you remove WEP Security is to see if your PC can connect without restriction to an unsecured wireless network. Theoretically, reducing your Network router down to factory settings will produce an open network that theoretically anybody is open to, then you can look in your router and see if it's picking up your PC (and maybe use the specific Mac addresses from the Laptop and the PC to block all Mac addresses but those). I'm not a WEP expert but I believe the following may be considerations: 1. Your PC is not configured with WEP Security properly. 2. Your Laptop is configured correctly and by spoofing a Mac addy additional problems arise. At the end of the day, the reinstall you did may mean nothing because you haven't taken your Router down to zero and you haven't taken your XP down to zero, so whatever problematic settings that afflicted your old machine is likely still the problem. Which is why any computer technician worth their salt, when dealing with people over the phone, would recommend reinstalls.

I'd also take your computer to your router and physically connect it to the router with a wire.

I'd nominate you for least convincing goodbye in 2008 if this wasn't such an obvious attempt at getting one. You sir, are a FRAUD!
But don't try and make me look like a fool by actually leaving, or I will be rather upset at you.

Re: Melodramatic Leaving Thread - Bye Everyone (Page 2)
I'm afraid I have some terrible, terrible news. Snrub has left us.
Actually his computer left us, but it took him down with him. Snrub is now forced to live as a caveman without any of the internets that we enjoy. Let this be a lesson to you all... don't take your internet for granite.
I personally don't know how he is coping. One time the power went out of my house for 20 minutes. I was so bored that the wife and I almost resorted to talking and/or making out. Luckily the laptop had a little charge left on it and I dug out my Halo copy for PC and human contact was averted!
Anyhow, my thoughts are with Snrub in these dark hours.

I hold a pint up in memory of Snrub, I was going to have this pint anyway but this is just convenient.

I wouldn't be so sure that bABA wasn't behind this. It wasn't much more than a day after we revealed those terrible comments that bABA made in his podcast that Snrub's PC displayed "problems". This could be baba's attempt to stop episode #2 from happening. One thing is for certain... my tin foil hat is firmly in place as a precautionary measure.

If anything, I'm the only one who has offered to fix the problem. No one else has.

And my plan to eliminate the voices of Those Against Garner (TAG) has claimed its first victim.
