Re: Yahoo Review Thread - I am Legend, Alvin
2 shows sold out for chipmunks here and 4 sold out for I am legend.
Looking very good for both movies. Also people are liking both movies. Kids are really digging chipmunks and so are adults surprisingly.

I have fond memories of Alvin and the Chipmunks from childhood so I'm glad it's apparently doing well and look forward to seeing it tomorrow.

I was 9 when I tought myself how to programme the VCR just to tape the show which was on at 6am. Look forward to hearing what you have to say about it. So it seems like great numbers for both Legend and Chipmunks! Great!!!

Re: Yahoo Review Thread - The Golden Compass
I Am Legend - 1089 (229), +80 (+24), B+ Alvin and the Chipmunks - 623 (39), +60 (+6), B+ I am Legend is doing well ($50m is definitely achievable), but mighty impressive is Chipmunks. Super-low written percentage, good grade, and great pace throughout. I think $30m is in play.

Re: Yahoo Review Thread - I am Legend, Alvin
Wow if A&C gets 28-30 million OW then that means it almost made as much as NATM did OW!!!!! And NATM had starpower like Ben Stiller, owen wilson, robin williams.
Wow just wow. Ya this will kick TGC's ass at the boxoffice domestically.

Flinstones, Scooby Doo, and Garfield were all big hits, though their sequels had major drops. We should have seen A&C coming. Though if history shows, a A&C2 would bomb or do A LOT less. 100% agreed. The only thing is that some fools still thought A&C would bomb.

If Alvin pulled $30 m this weekend, it could top $150 m + overall!

Though it certainly will break 120m with that opening. Chipmunks is so under 10 friendly that I don't see how it won't get at least a 5.0 multiplier with the holidays. NT2 skews a bit older...

It's a Shrek-like film that appeals to all ages. AND...it should be noted that films like Scooby Doo and Garfield, which surpassed expectations on opening, had good legs, but under the usual for family-films. Wouldn't be surprsie A&C getting a 30m OW and then "just" getting around 120m-125m. The one difference though is that Scooby Doo and Garfield did not open right before Christmas time. The two weeks that include Christmas and New Years are increadible for films, especially family films. Case in point, Charlotte's Web opened this weekend last year to just 11 million, but ended up with over 80 million. It had a 7 multiplier. Whatever A&C opens to, I'm sure it's going to get a 5x multiplier

Some of us did think it would be a big hit months ago *runs to find the post he predicted $100m and hopes it wasnt just a dream* I initally thouhg it would be big until I saw the trailer. Then I thought it wouldn't do well. Then today I realized that I should have gone with my inital feeling because that was purley based on histroical data. Oh, and this further proves that Speed Racer will break 100m. Kids are going to dig that, as well as geeks. Yes good point - this bodes especially well for Speed Racer. Its good a great groundbreaking (quirky) look and appeals to kids/families - major hit in the making. The first trailer for Alvin wasnt good - but the second trailer i saw infront of Bee Movie had kids laughing. As for Alvin vs NT2 - I think they can both live alongside each other. Alvin skews very young and while NT2 is a family film - it does skew a bit older (and older than NATM).

Re: Yahoo Review Thread - The Golden Compass
I Am Legend - 1580 (325), +178 (+38), B+ Alvin and the Chipmunks - 954 (63), +83 (+6), B+ (up from B) I am Legend should continue to distance itself from Alvin at night. Alvin should finish with 1200 or so; has to do at least $8m, right?

Re: Yahoo Review Thread - I am Legend, Alvin
Id say so and that would mean $30m minimum for Alvin.
What is impressive is that the grade has gone back up to a B+

Re: Yahoo Review Thread - I am Legend, Alvin
If A&C does $140+ million then that is just so embarassing for TGC and also proves american audiences support such stuff only once.
