Okay, I was off work yesterday and decided to go to the mall to get a few things. I haven't been to the mall on a weekday for a long while, and almost never when they first open. (10 AM) I was shocked at the amount of eldery people walking around the mall like it was a track. Seriously, I was in a store and counted at least 20 pass by. And they would wave to each other, walk over and chat for a moment, then go on like they do this everyday. I'm wondering if this is something new or if it's been going on for awhile. I'm assuming eldery folks enjoy it because, for one, it gets them out of the cold, and second, they get exersise for free while being able to window browse. Has anyone else witnessed this? It came to me as a surprise! Heck, it's actually a good idea. :razz:

Ive heard of old people doing in the winter for exercise.

This has been going on at my local mall for as long as i've lived here (ten years). Number one reason to stay away from the mall in the morning.

My grandfather used to do this...

They'd meet up in a mall in a Cleveland suburb, walk around, and then they'd all have a chat about food (and the prices back 'n the day) over McDonalds coffee.

When I was 17 I worked at a Mall and these huge groups would be there with hand-weights and everything! Yeah this is old hat off route 9 Natick.

That's not my #1 reason for staying away from malls, I think its great compared to the amount of tweens I just saw hanging out (ah yes the mall rats) who would come in and steal candy were I worked. Mostly because I didn't care if they'd take it (I would have) but cause we got in trouble when tons of candy wasn't accounted for suring inventory. That and my boss used to leave work to be with a security guard and her boyfriend would come by and we'd have to make up lies about where she was.

Trust me, its not what you wear, its how you wear it. If I was wearing that outfit, it would look nothing like that. :wink:

Actually I worked at Sweet Factory (hides head in shame) we had to wear black pants, a white top, and an apron...thats right an apron. Oh dio those cute old walking ladies with their weights were a thankful and much needed reprieve from staring at 13 years making out in the corner and getting more action than I was at 17.

My sister is the same way with aprons. She won't take a job if it requires wearing an apron. What is it with girls and aprons, Galia?

I've only stolen candy...once. At a WalMart in Orlando when I was 8. I told my parents when they found me gobbling some of it up that I found it in the drawers of the condo we were staying in. They "acted" as if they bought the excuse and then subtlely, two days later, gave me a lesson on "stealing".

You know what's worse? During Chem/Physics labs when you've got to wear an apron AND those goggles that are very air-tight. Once they're off, you're left with a big imprint of the marking on the face...

Unless worn without anything underneath.

My grandfather would do it because the friends in his apartment would and he thought it was a good way to socialize and get out. Even though the mall was across the street...

At least my grandfather realized that the breakfast at McDonalds treat after the little walk completely killed any health benefits of the walk...

I actually have never stolen anything, but my sister has. I think it was some candy at, coincidently, Wal-Mart, when she was 7 or so. She got out of the store, then felt so bad she cried on the way home and made my mom take her back to apologize. She ate the candy on the way, though. :razz:

@Chris - You never stole candy as a kid? I always used to...but that's cause it was "illegal" in our house, so we'd never get to buy it. If I ever wanted gum or candy I had to steal it. But that's when I was like ten. Now I just eat 2 candybars a day to compensate for all those lost years of sugar consumption

Nope. I guess I was a "goody goody" or something, afraid that if I was caught I'd be sent to jail. I thought about stealing a butterfinger once because my mom wouldn't buy it for me, though. I remember I was mad for a week or more!

I was the kind that, even when mad, gives in within an hour. I never USUALLY stayed mad.

I've actually semi-stolen one thing this year. An annoying kid in Physics who flaunts his intelligence (proving that he's missing out on that OTHER kind of intelligence - the social kind) always imposed himself on my desk. I told him that if he continued turning around and bothering me (okay, so it wasn't THAT bothersome. I just wanted to give him a hard time ), I'd take whatever he was holding that wasn't clothing. Soo...I took his pen. But, I'm such a wuss (I'm not going to call myself kind-hearted here, am I?) that I gave it back the next day. *sigh* It was a nice pen, too.

You guys wanna hear a good stealing story... Here it goes. 1 1/2 years ago. Stoned out of my mind at the local convenience store with 4 friends. No money but we got the pasties and the munchies like there's no tomorow. So we walk in, me and 1 guy goes to the back while the two others distract the clerk (those two are stealing chocolate bars while talking to the clerk). I stuff three big bottles of sprite in my jacket while my other friend stuffs 4 big bags of chips in his. Oh but before I stuffed the the pops, I put a pringles bottle down my pants. Funny thing is, the convenience store is owned by one of those friends' parents.

Ew. I MUCH prefer the outdoor "Town/Lifestyle" centers. Even though they look so faux, at least you can witness the outdoors...

For some reason I was. We all had a laugh though when I took a pringles bottle out of my pants though.
