oh damn!
Evan almighty will annihilate this.
It is bad to release horror movies in summer and on top of that going against a family movie is serious no no.
Also neva release horror stuff in december.
And i am willing to bet avp 2 will bomb.

Its a shame it moved BUT Evan Almighty is a big chance at flopping - so it may not be such a bad move.

Yes and Yes.
Though they all think they may be lucky enough to get a Screm/Scream 2 type run, which rarely happens.

Prom Night seemed like an ideal candidate for Superbowl weekend. Another teen-horror remake that probably would be crappy but would make a good amount of money on OW. Somewhat odd move I feel.
I don't think the move is odd. It's moving to the Disturbia date. Moving away from Super Bowl weekend will also give the film a better weekend multiplier.

Well, I mean if they make a good film then maybe it can thrive there. Disturbia I felt was big because it had one dead weekend before it and two dead weekends after it, plus it was actually a good film. I feel Prom Night is a film that could get "lost' in a crowded marketplace. With Superbowl opening, it probably would have been the only(or one of two) new release that weekend. WASC, Boogeyman, and the Messengers all benefitted from this and had solid opening weekends. I mean, for 4 straight years Sony/Screen Gems has had a solid hit opened on Superbowl weekend. Prom Night could have easily been the 5th straight movie for them to open well on Superbowl weekend.
Sony will probably place another teen horror flick on Super Bowl weekend. Plus, the new date gets it closer to the actual proms at the end of the school which could help it some.

Going up against HP5 and Transforemrs 2nd weekend was bad, but this now puts it against another horror film, Captivity. But this is more adult-oriented so I guess it'll be fine. Either way though I don't think the film was going to do very well.
it seems like EVAN ALMIGHTY has no longer the luxury of a release date with zero competetion.
Also it sucks but June seems crowded.

Noooooo. Fanboys was one ofmy most anticipated! But I guess its better for its box office. Same with the Comebacks - August had far too many comedies.

I'm actually kinda looking forward to that. The original is great, but a modernization would be interesting. And Michael Caine going from the younger role to the older role is inspired casting. Plus it's got a solid director + writer. Should be pretty good.

Then again, 90% of movies these days aren't needed.
I'd rather see a remake of Sleuth than Transformers.

Ice Age 3 has been set for 07/01/09.
Hopefully they'll ditch Manny and friends and just go for Scrat the squirrel this time.

Wednesday before July 4th, good date for Ice Age 3. The last one had a one of the worst multipliers for animated film (the lowest for a $35+m opener), and the grades all around are average, so the prospect doesn't look too bright to begin with.
