I'm inclined to agree with you. I think the Giants got hot at the right time this year while all the teams they played (Pats, Boys, Packer, Bucs) were cold. Hell, if the Eagles got their shit together, they could finish last in the division.

But...right now, I think they still will make the playoffs.

The Giants will be about 6-2 AGAIN to start the year, but will AGAIN finish either 4-4 or 3-5.

They won't finish strong. They never will. And this year, they won't have an undefeated team to play all out against to get their groove back.

Walking off the field with head down in disappointment with yet another loss to a Manning. But this time (to add more salt to wound) it'll be in the AFC championship game in Foxboro. :P

Post Re: 2008 NFL Discussion
AFC

1. New England Patriots: 14-2 - Not that much of the team is changing. With the exception of a couple of players they'll mostly be adding and adding on to the defense. As for the record, I really don't want to go through this undefeated thing again and I actually hope they lose a couple of games. I think a lot of pressure was put on them during the final weeks of the season (whether they want to admit it or not) and I think that got in the way somehow.

2. Jacksonville Jaguars: 13-3 - I'd say 12-4, but I think they'll actually win a game against the Colts next year.

3. San Diego Chargers: 13-3 - They'll be more relaxed with Turner at the beginning of the year thus leading to more wins. It wouldn't surprise me if they make it back to the AFC Championship. They aren't winning it though.

4. Indianapolis Colts: 12-4 - Nothing is changing. Their still a very good team. But as I said, the Jaguars beat them once next year.

5. Cleveland Browns: 11-5 - They found some sort of groove towards the end of the year and I think that will only carry into next year. They'll finish ahead of the Steelers, but I expect a first round finish for them. It's an improvement though.

NFC

1. Dallas Cowboys: 13-3
2. Green Bay Packers: 12-4 - Favre is coming back. We all know it.
3. Washington Redskins: 11-5
4. Minnesota Vikings: 10-6
5. New Orleans Saints: 9-7

I don't think either Arizona nor Philly will make the playoffs next year. Teams with QB controversies looming are very problematic. Arizona can't decide between Leinart and Warner and Philly will kill McNabb once he throws his first incompletion. They probably be better off if they trade him away.

New England will comfortably win their division (they won't be much worse and their divison sucks)

As for my Giants, I think they will be in the running for the play-offs. Dallas probably wins the division, but the Redskins are a mess and the Giants have a very young D, even Strahan retiring wouldn't hurt them. They just need a nice WR free agency pick up and 1-2 CBs in the draft and they are good to go. I think they go 11-5 and make the Wild Card.

watch out for the browns if they can add a few defensive players this offseason. they could win 12 games with a good defense. the only thing i'm worried about is a tough schedule. if not for some collapses this past season they could have easily won the division. if they don't add much they will still be a 8-10 win team and be in the mix for a wild card spot again.

New Super Bowl prediction.

Patriots vs. Packers

Winner: Patriots

Reasoning: Cowboys will probably be the one-seed once again. They're just too good on paper for that not to happen (or at not in the top three). But now after seeing Romo in the playoffs for two consecutive years, I just can't see how anyone would have confidence in this guy. The Giants proved this year multiple times that the best team doesn't always win, but how do the Cowboys blow that game at home (same for the Packers)? Another team will come along like that and bite them in the ass, and I think it'll be Favre winning his first game in Dallas in the championship game.

*Yeah, Redskins aren't making it next year.*

At least there is one person here with a brain. The Giants will make the playoffs. Manning turned the corner with the a good month. Including 2 games againist those mighty Pats that he played straight up in both games. Also the Giants will have their TE back, Steve Smith, the 3rd receiver for a full year and the new RB's for a new year. Plus that defense will be back to knock Brady on his ass a couple more times. That is of course if the Pats make it to the Super Bowl again.

And on the Pats, notice that no-one talks about how their defense got schooled in the 2nd half of the year with all of those close game. And the Giants told the other NFL teams, how to beat the Pats. Remember the Super Bowl or you will have another losing year next year.

Super Bowl Champion Giants.

Edit: I had to look at this again. Here's the reason why no one was talking about how the Patriots defense got schooled - they won every game. They were two inches away from winning the Super Bowl (I'm talking about the two near picks). Even with the Giants smashmouth play against the Patriots offensive line, they needed a Eli Manning miracle and a little bit of luck in order to win the game.

And, if you're under the assumption that the Patriots won't improve their offensive line and their other weaknesses on defense, you're going to be disappointed. It'd be interesting to see if the Patriots give a run at Zach Thomas. It wouldn't exactly be the best bet in order for them to get younger, but for one year it might be worth it. And the nice thing about this is that they have money to spend.

I'm not saying it won't happen, but they'll have to go about it the same way they did this year. And with a much rougher schedule, it's going to be tough.

ok, ill say it. the giants wont win next years super bowl. they got lucky and for some reason the pats forgot how to adjust.

im telling you...16-0 AGAIN...they have an easy schedule and will only get better...stallworth is gone, but chad jackson will step it up and well draft either best corner (if asante leaves) or best linebacker (if asanta stays) in the draft, give us some props.

people act like going 18-1 is bad. obv if you lose super bowl it sucks but you still won 18 games, they uh be just as dominant season cept hungrier n meaner and more balanced. maroney pro bowler welker moss brady all pro bowlers you know

Well, just in their last 2 games, the Pats got lucky that the other teams didn't score more. Againist the Chargers with a healthy LT and Rivers, they would have scored more points and againist the Giants, didn't the Giants lose the ball a couple of times inside the 20. Smith deflection was a fluke and then a fumble or two.

Anyway, all I am saying that the Pats had some cracks that weren't exploited and next week, I would bet that the Pats will lose some games unless they change somethings.

I not sure so have to look and research at who on the Giants will be retiring but with their complete team returning that dominated the playoffs: QB, 3 WR, 2RB, 1 TE and a great killer defense to further judge on 2008. But with the same team returning, the Giants will be a major threat and should be the 2008 Super Bowl Champion again. Those who disagree, well did you know as I knew the Giants would win the Super Bowl this year. Trust me and maybe even Bet on it in Vegas. Sure Money. The 2007 and 2008 Super Bowl Champion Giants.

Maybe next year Eli and the Giants might spank Peyton and the Colts as they did to Brady and the Pats this year? That would be sweet!

They'll either finish 10-6 or 11-5 with the team they have now. And that's just based on who they're playing. We're not taking into account what their schedule is going to be like. Since they're the champions though, the schedule will be made rough on them. It happens with every winning team. Once the real schedule comes out, we'll be able to tell better what they're going to finish with, but I'll guarantee that the win total won't go up.

In order to get back to the Super Bowl, they're going to have to have the same amount of luck (every team needs a little bit of luck in the playoffs) on the road that they did this year. I really don't see them winning every road playoff game (they might get a Wildcard home game) once again next year.

Who says that they won't win the division? As I have said before the Giants aren't the same team that finished the year as a wild card. Let everyone keep on making that mistake. Which is why I knew they would play the Pats close in Game 16. And if their running back Bradshaw played, they probably would have won. And then I was smiling on the inside at the bar when I kept hearing how the Giants had no chance againist Tampa Bay, Dallas, Green Bay and the Pats. But I bet on them every game and I cleaned up as the Giants won every game to their Championship. That many wins is no fluke so the Giants deserve more respect but I am happy with the wins and championship from 2007 and 2008 will bring lots more winning and surprising games.
