They probably thought Sydow didn't need any career recognition as he already had two? Oscar noms in the past. I really thought he'd get nommed.

Re: And Ruby Dee Makes It 10 Straight Years Of Colour but unlike past years, her nomination was relatively unexpected and unforeseen. She had a bit of buzz at her back, but it really seems like Denzel would've been a more likely contender for the spot than her.
But I'm glad some diversity found its way into the race.

Re: And Ruby Dee Makes It 10 Straight Years Of Colour I'm really happy for Ruby Dee too, honestly. American Gangster wasn't a GREAT movie, but the scene where she talks to Denzel and slaps him was definitely one of last year's highlights.

Re: And Ruby Dee Makes It 10 Straight Years Of Colour Definitely the standout scene for me. I don't know. I feel people put so much emphasis on screen time. I won't compare her to the other nominees this year since all are amazing but in her short appearance in the film she is SO much better than so many previous nominees, even those that are almost in the entire films they were nominated for. Of course her body of work also plays a part in the nomination, but she has been incredible for over half a century! I feel old for saying this but some people here really don't appreciate that. As stated earlier, I think her performance in A Raisin in the Sun in particular is excellent. That should have been her first nomination. _________________ Best Actress 2008
