Post The Aviator's Score is Disqualified?
http://www.oscarwatch.com

Debated on our forums and reported on The Hot Button, it looks as though, according the Film Score Monthly (and they should know, right?), it's true:

Hate to disappoint you, but The Aviator score won't be nominated. The AMPAS Music Branch rules exclude scores "diluted by the use of tracked or pre-existing music" and/or "diminished in impact by the predominant use of songs," so Aviator was disqualified because, terrific as it is, the Shore score is only a minority of the prominent music in the film. Also I think Harry Potter 's sequel status will hurt it (even though it's a better score than The Terminal ), while The Terminal score's charming, old fashioned quality is likely to appeal to the older branch members despite the film's lack of popularity. And by law they have to nominated Williams for something.

Thats BS,i guess The Aviator wont get the record nominations now.

Good, if other films *ahem* are inelligible for the same reason, the same should hold true for The Aviator

It's the second time that's happened this decade, a movie wins best score at the Golden globes but is not elligible for the score Oscar...it happpened in 2002 with Moulin Rouge.

Maybe the academy shoulc check why they invented the rule, it was because Disney musicals always swept the category. But to declare Aviator ineligible is just wrong...

The good thing is that this will help TPOTC possibilities with a score nomination.

No, give credit to Clint where he deserves it, but as a composer he isn't that great. I think Finding Neverland may have a shot at ir...

Would be the best bet of giving him award for Million Dollar Baby, so they can award Marty for Directing.

James Newton Howard deserves to be nominated for his score in The Village

I completely agree.

Other than that, The Incredibles deserves to win at this point.

Now that you said that, I think that the Incredibles will get the nomination (that score was just great).

From all of the movies/scores I've sen/heard (I often download scores to movies I haven't seen....it's a small hobby of mine...I'm actually downloading the Aviator soundtrack right now...) The Terminal AND Harry Potter are both worthy of a score nomination. If I had it my way, the following four would be locks for a nomination.

The Passion of the Christ
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
The Terminal
The Incredibles

I think The Terminal will get a nom. I mean, c'mon, it's a Spielberg movie, it HAS to get some noms. I think it'll get that and Best Art Direction (which would be well-deserved).
