My head is spinning, my heart is racing, I'm not sure if I just watched it or endured it. In either case, if people are labeling No Country for Old Men a masterpiece, a new word is needed to describe There Will Be Blood. Let's have a toast by drinking milkshake!

SEE IT.
No, seriously, drive to LA or something and see it.
Like, remember when baumer offered to give Vincent money to see Return of the Sith? I will PayPal you one fifth of your gas money if this movie isn't worth the trip.

I know you're good for it Money Bags McGee, but I honestly think I'll be able to see it within the next couple of weeks. If not in Portland, then when it inevitably goes 500+ screens.

...but not before your ballot is due (Although, I feel kinda bad that I can't see Into the Wild and Assassination of Jesse James before ballots are due. A half-decent copy hasn't leaked yet. I'd even take a watchable cam recording at this point. They're not playing anywhere on the entire frickin' east coast).

 Re: There Will Be Blood
It's bloody amazing. DDL is brilliant as always and Paul Dano even gives a strong performance. I do agree that it dragged a bit in spots, but like torri said for every one bad thing there are ten great things. I would say its easily has some of the best scenes of 2007, with the last two scenes especially standing out. It's only my number two of the year, but I think it's safe to say DDL had my favorite performance of the year and will get the Oscar.

 Re: There Will Be Blood
It's a really good movie. I'm giving it a B+. it's not an A for me because of some of the things already said:
1. movie is mostly a character story. It's amazingly done, but just not my cup of tea. 2. It's first hour is amazing. Once the son goes deaf, it loses a bit of steam until the last 20-30 minutes. 3. The subtle commentary on alcohol abuse annoyed me for some reason. Can't really elaborate, but for example, was it really necessary to see him gulp down that bottle of liquor during Eli's visit at the end? 4. This was a bleak movie but not in the same way that NCFOM was. Someone described this movie as "simple" earlier. I think I agree.
I can see why many are going gaga over the movie. I just enjoyed other movies more this year.

Guys, DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE SCREENER IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIEIt is out of sync and cuts off the last thirty seconds, arguably the most important thirty seconds in the entire film. Source(s): http://www.mininova.org/com/1100154, http://forum.vcdq.com/showthread.php?threadid=79846

 Re: There Will Be Blood
Great movie. Had some amazing scenes, and a very few boring ones. But the great scenes were REALLY great mostly because of Daniel Day Lewis. He was just perfect.

 Re: There Will Be Blood
Fascinating characters and a brilliant score uplift a movie that could have been a complete bore. Not much of a plot and didn't feel like it was building to anything (though there was quite a climax) I was utterly fascinated with the movie for the first hour and a half or so, but then my fascination started to wane afterwards, though it came back during that last great scene between Lewis and Dano. Possibly a bit too long. A brilliant film on a technical level, but left me wanting.

It was really, really intense, and it was kind of like that the entire movie. The score was very 2001-esque, especially in the beginning. I'm wondering how much of the power of the film is due to intense score, it would be interesting to see how the perspective of the film will change if it was score-less like No Country for Old Men.

Even if you couldn't catch everything, it's very obvious that there was a SHITLOAD of stuff beneath the surface in this film; whether it referred to a growing America, humanity in general, businesses like oil, or a bit of everything, the film had a lot of deeper meaning, whereas NCFOM's deeper meaning only existed in the last couple of scenes. The rest was just intense-as-fuck storytelling.
Both are fantastic. And I'll be delighted if either win Best Picture. I just think TWBB deserves it more. Um No Country had a very simple storyline, it was the themes that made it deep.

Like virtually everyone else, I had my balls blown off.
A fucking bowling pin, dude! Plus Greenwood's amazing music. It's possibly the most American film ever made.

Without DDL, it isn't a masterpiece. It's just an extremely well-made movie.

You're right Magnus. There Will Be Blood definitely fails to be a modern Citizen Kane. Cause, you know, it's actually good.

Definitely memorable. I thought it was pretty brilliant. I love Anderson's films more with each viewing (which especially worked for Punch-Drunk Love) and this will probably be no exception.

 Re: There Will Be Blood
My God this movie is racing through my mind and I saw it five hours ago. Disgustingly perfect movie. I have never seen anything like it. Easily one of my top ten films of all time. Daniel Day Lewis puts on a fucking show here and makes us all his bitches. I can't find any negatives about this movie. So many of you guys have written what I want to say. It truly is an American masterpiece of the highest caliber. Day Lewis is so amazing his evil character is actually sympathetic. Do yourself a favor and see this. Sheer brilliance on so many levels. The beach scene is easily the best scene of the movie. The look on his face when he starts to realize that's not his brother is so well done. One scene that confused me is when he is at the restaurant with his son. Why did he put the napkin over his head and start yelling? Was there any significance tot hat or was he just drunk? A+++++

I think this was supposed to show how his own wealth and success had turned him into such a selfish (and immature) man. When he first spoke to those men before he struck gold and became rich, he was relatively well mannered until he decided to do things his own way...now, when he sees them, he makes no attempt to hide what wealth and "success" has done to his character. He's the maniac, he's the greedy one; not them.
