 Shocked
You know, you would think that by 2005, our society would start to become more giving and accept people for who they are.
It looks like we still have a long way to go...

Is this on something specific, or in general? I know we all would like to THINK we're all mature, but some people have grown up differently. Just take anything in your life, any little thing that you've grown to know, perhaps even grow to love. Then try and take it away, or more aptly, change it around. Change is rarely accepted amongst people, especially in big issues. People with open minds forget (yes, I am included in this, so don't take it as an insult) tend to forget that we can't always accept change, and for some, it goes as deep as what they've learned from others, whether parents, friends, or family members.
Umm... but, if that is NOTHING about what you were talking about, my bad.

Can we just put the dumbass "Controversial Picture" thread behind us? Please? Or turn it into something more lighthearted, like something that pokes fun of Fred Phelps.

People all have different views on things. Religion, politics etc... and in a complex society like what we live in conflicts are bound to happend. Libs, you don't need to bring a whole new thread to push you're ideas onto others. Nobody's perfect so why do you need to point it out.

Yeah, one layer of bigotry and mindlessness, one layer of namecalling, and three layers of uselessness.
Internet debates on basic beliefs are meaningless because it just won't change anyone's mind, especially a hateful mind.
But let's turn it into a more lighthearted thread.

I have to agree... We all have our own beliefs, and what-not. We want others to embrace those same beliefs, but it's like a debate: rarely will you ever change the other person's opinion. Don't get so worked up, Libs. I'm sure I've said things you disagreed with. I'm sure you said things that I disagreed with. I'm sure you've never held it against me, and I've never held anything against you. If someone is outright insulting and downright, how do you say... disgusting... well, just ignore that person. If they want to act that way, let them. Don't let it ruin your day or anything. We're not all perfect, and heck, some are less perfect than others. ... I wanted to say something else, which explains the procrastination, but I forgot. Oh well... I hope my point got across.
Edit: WE'RE ALL THE SAME, ONLY DIFFERENT... okay, it sounded more apt in my head. Just forget about it, there's plenty more intelligent fish in KJ's sea.

Don't say that. Human beings start off on the same level, black, white, asian,... german... and everone is unique in a sense but there are no people that are better then others. Just different strenghts and weakness'.

Actually, my bad on that. I began drifting aimlessly there, trying to remember what I was going to say, and ended up referencing Animal Farm, even though the quote went nothing like that.

I'm shocked by the fact that you are shocked. What do you think this world is, some kind of paradise?

Actually, my thread title and what I said in my original post weren't really related. I was sort of rambling because I was so disgusted what was going on with the other thread. Basically, "Shocked" (the title) comes from how I felt and the actual subject of this post is more of a thought I just put out there.

Ya, it's ugly stuff, but this is so common. I'd go so far as to say that in some parts of the world, it's the normal dicourse. Maybe in most parts of the world. And I'm not talking about homosexuality exclusively.
Incidentally, I think the worst cases are where the language does not have a term of gays. There are languages where, for all intents and purposes, such a thing as a 'homosexual' does not exist. There, you could not have a discussion at all. How can you talk about something that is not there?
That is frustrating.

I'm sorry if it was any of my comments, Libs. I was speaking in the most general of terms. I wasn't trying to offend anybody.

Well I agree with Libs.
I don't care if this discourse is common in other parts of the world...doesn't mean I'm going to pat people on the back or turn a blind eye if they support sending homosexuals, or anyone else through the chambers again. I'm dissappointed that we want to *let drop* the preaching of such hate crimes. While you're at it, go hang out at a KKK rally, do nothing about it, and wake up feeling fresh and good about yourself in the morning.
As someone who still feels the effects of the post-holocaust spectre I don't think anyone should get away with saying its alright to slap the pink triangle on people's arms once again. Yes, its 2005 and I , like Libs, would like to think we've come a little ways since 1945. 50 years should really be enough. 50 seconds should have been enough actually. Listen everyone, you don't have to love people you aren't comfortable with whether it be because of their religion, ethnic background, sexual preferences, gender, or politics, but first and foremost everyone should have a respect for eachother's life as a physical and inherent right.
I think everyone should be quite comdemning of such suggestions of genocide regardless of personal comfort levels, beliefs, or anything else I have thus far failed to mention. Shame on anyone who can even listen to such atrocious suggestions and not have consequent outrage that outweighs their personal (dis)comfort levels, period.

Hell, she doesn't even know, but it doesn't take rocket science to figure out what this is about now does it??? Libs, just accept the fact that not everyone embraces the subject of Homosexuality and that's the way it will remain for a long time to come.. Now on that note, the Mighty BKB Has hit the *1000* Post.. YES!!!!!! =D> =D>

Who says I don't condemn it? I condemn it as forcefully as anyone else, but it does not shock me that this happens. Unlike you, Dolce, I actually don't think we've made much progress, and as Algren's complete and disgusting ignorance shows, in a lot of cases, there is no such thing as progress.
I'm not an optimist. If you approach this from the viewpoint of someone who expects the worst, which I do, it's not shocking. Disgusting, yes, and worthy of condemnation, but not shocking.
Edit: Outrage, ok. I am outraged in that this is something I do not approve of, and that I do not approve of being stated (A's comments). I am not outraged in that this is something I am surprised to hear; I've heard it before, and I expect to hear it again. It's outrageous in that it is beneath anyone's dignity.
