 Is it just me, or....
am I the only one excited about Cinderalla Man. I do not usually like Russell Crowe (just in Gladiator) and I loate Renne Zellweger but for some reason after seeing the trailer, I want to see this movie...it tugged on my inspiration cord.

I finally saw the trailer today. I'm not a big fan of boxing films, but this is one film I really do want to see.

Thanks for that top-notch observation.
On that note, I can't wait to see Cinderella Man. Although I don't like Russell Crowe personally, I don't think anyone should deny his skill as an actor. I'm also a fan of Renee Zellweger. As an added bonus, Paul Giamatti (yay!) is in this, too.

I laughed so hard reading that, Libs. Thank you.
As for the movie, I saw the trailer, and I don't know. I may catch it on DVD.

Yes I think it is loosely based on the boxing champ - Braddock.
Note to A. As it deals with an aging boxer - this would have been perfect for a post career aging Rocky. Stallone in Rocky 7?

I haven't see the trailer yet, but I probably won't see it in theatres since I never watch sport films in theatres.

I would imagine that the boxing is less than 25 % of the movie as the trailers indicated the movie deals with his struggles after ending his prime boxing career and then he comes back to it later when he is down and out.

The trailer's great (if not a little Seabiscuit-y). Definitely on my list.

James J Braddock earned his nickname, Cinderella Man, from his seemingly fairytale like rise from a poor local fighter to the heavyweight boxing champion of the world.
Braddock, born in New York City, had a powerful right hand and a successful amateur career. He turned pro in 1926. Braddock had victories over fighters like Jimmy Slattery and Pete Latzo. Braddock fought light heavyweight champ Tommy Loughran in 1929 for the title, but was defeated in a heartbreaking 15-round decision. Following the Loughran fight and the stock market crash of 1929, Jim Braddock was down on his luck. He had a hard time struggling to win fights and put food on the table for his young family.
Eventually Jim's luck began to change. In 1934 he had upset wins against Corn Griffin and John Henry Lewis. With these two wins, Braddock set himself up for a shot for the title against heavyweight champion Max Baer.
On June 13th, 1935, in Long Island City, N.Y., Braddock, as a 10 to 1 underdog, won the heavyweight championship of the world from Max Baer. The general reaction in most quarters was described as, "the greatest fistic upset since the defeat of John L. Sullivan by Jim Corbett". Braddock would lose his heavyweight title two years later in an 8 round KO to "The Brown Bomber", Joe Louis. He retired after a final win over Tomomy Farr in 1938. Jim was inducted into the Ring Boxing Hall of Fame in 1964, the Hudson County Hall of Fame in 1991 and the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2001.

Maybe the next trailer will be better, but the old one left me cold. Just seems very boring and cliche.

I agree with Sam. I was actually looking forward to the trailer. I had been loosely following some of the production stuff, and it was and still is on my anticipated list. But the trailer left me shaking my head....not out of amusement, but out of something else I can't quite put my finger on.

It's just so... bleh, bland. There's nothing new or exciting about it. It looks like a noble movie, and probably a well made one, but there's just no spice whatsoever to it.

Academy Award Winning viewer andaroo, will go see this Academy Award bait film, because I like Academy Award Winning Actor Russell Crowe and there promises to be a lot of Academy Award winning tears. Poor non-Academy Award winning or non-Academy Award nominee Paul Giamatti doesn't get mentioned in this Academy Award aiming trailer because the Academy Awards SUCK and didn't nominated him for the Academy Award deserving American Splendor, which is okay because we are being punished by Academy Award snubbed God for not nominated Giamatti, and therefore have to suffer through Academy Award bound Finding Neverland as punishment for our Academy Award whatever sins.
If you wonder why this Academy Award hopeful post is like this, you should watch the trailer. I think "Academy Award" appears like 1023420408 times right in front of someone breaking down and crying. In fact, I think there is more footage of Academy Award stats in the trailer than there is footage?

The only thing that bothers me is about this movie is Renee Zellweeger. I absolutely hate her and that's the main reason I'm not anticipating it as much as I could with an other actress.

i find this movie interesting as well, and i'm a fan of Renee, so i'll be watching it, besides Russell Crowe never been bad in Drama movie. the proof is on A Beautiful Mind. he is doing really great there, he should deserve an oscar for that movie, but too bad he didn't achieve it.
