Well... Atonement will probably get up to 70 mil+ if it gets a BP nom, they'll milk it out

Focus Features is hardly Miramax.

The Weinsteins would have no problem positioning Atonement for an Oscar sweep. Focus can't do shit; they couldn't even get Scarlett Johansson an Oscar nomination for Lost in Translation. And they certainly don't know how to expand movies, as evident by: http://www.the-numbers.com/market/Distr ... atures.php

I was just thinking, Atonement WAS the nomination leader, maybe that made a big difference. After all, Babel won Best Drama too. Among press it that might have made it the "frontrunner" and worthy of a win, I dunno.

Juno's 0/3 is unacceptable, the globes suck.

Yeah, I think the Globes were just reactionary voting for the poncy European period pieces. They don't get American movies...man movies like No Country, There Will be Blood,Into the Wild and The Diving Bell and the (Raw, Dripping) Butterfly (Steak) .

Wow, holy shit. Some surprises at last!!

Atonement taking Best Picture (Drama) was a bit WTF?, but I'm glad it'll boost its chances. I really am starting to think that the big snubs of it in the guilds are the result of lacking screeners. All it needs now is to get a PGA nom and then it's truly back in the race.

No surprises as far as the acting winners go.

NCFOM taking Screenplay is quite good as well since competition was fierce, but the real huge winner of the night is The Diving Bell and the Butterfly which, IMO, would have definitely won Best Picture Drama had it been up for that.

My new rankings:

1. No Country for Old Men
2. There Will Be Blood
3. Into the Wild
4. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
5. Juno
6. Atonement
7. Michael Clayton

... But really, the spots #4-#7 are almost interchangeable at this point.

I love that so many had the same reaction to Billy Bush's and that other woman's commentary last night. It was insane. I wanted to grab them through the tv and slap them both.

The only good thing about the telecast was its short length.

And seriously, would it kill the people writing the preview material to actually know what they're talking about and refer to the people who are actually contenders to win rather than just the biggest stars? I'm guessing that at least a nice chunk of the viewership is up enough on the race to know that Charlie Wilson's War has very little chance of doing anything.
