Can we get a chat going? We can, like, pretend this is happening. It's tradition. I'm praying that TWBB and Sweeney upset. I saw Sweeney yesterday; it's Burton's best since Edward Scissorhands.

I saw Sweeney yesterday; it's Burton's best since Edward Scissorhands. Oh, we're still going to get this thread to 20 pages. Not sure how yet being the telecast is only 30 minutes long. Sweeney confuses me to no end. Burton's best work in over a decade and with an excellent cast no less. My personal theory is it's an issue with the source material (a bit like Dreamgirls). The problem is when you're adapting a musical, you're stuck with what's on paper. It's not like PTA and Oil where you can change the entire story if you want. I don't think people realize that as each of these high profile musicals fail (degrees of failure of course), it calls into question the ability to produce future adaptations, not to mention an original musical like Moulin Rouge!. Maybe there's one thing to consider...I think after Chicago's win, the Academy has become a bit weary of awarding too much to musicals because I think there have been some negative reactions to Chicago's win (IMO, it was good, but no way it deserved it over The Pianist or The Two Towers).

Has a movie ever won Best Picture Drama at the Globes without a Best Director nom? Can anyone fill me in?

Looking on the bright side of the train wreck Golden Globes that will air tonight, the fact that they're only an hour will allow me to also watch The Amazing Race and Brothers & Sisters this evening.
Also, I remain hopeful that Juno will win Best Picture so Loyal has to do something wacky on YouTube.

I personally hope The Great Debaters takes BP.
That would cause greater commotion than Crash's win. We'd easily get twenty pages.

If the film had notched a Best Director nom and Best Screenplay nom, I'd be more inclined to believe it could win. But it lacks both of those. That, combined with the fact that No Country for Old Men has those noms and is considered the frontrunner, I see No Country winning. Peace, Mike

Why is it that Zingaling has the smartest predictions here? And the Juno train isn't ending for another 9 days, Loyal. Just try holding out that long.

Ellen Page isn't winning, thus I don't think Zingaling has the smartest predictions at all. Peace, Mike

Re: Golden Globes, Er News Conference Party Down Thread: 5 Hours
Interesting categories tonight: Best Picture (Musical or Comedy) - Will their musical trend continue with Sweeney, or will they jump on the Juno train (think Dreamgirls vs. LMS).
Best Actress (Musical or Comedy) - Again, Juno train...or a great performance in a french semi-musical by Marion Cotillard.
Best Actress (Drama) - Is Julie Christie not Hollywood enough for them? They could totally go for Angelina.
Oh, and will Atonement pick up anything?
