 Could there be no oscar or golden globe awards this year? Quote:
The WGA, the union representing striking writers, is refusing to allow its members to write for the Academy Awards or Golden Globe ceremonies, reports The Associated Press.
The board of directors of the Writers Guild of America West decided not to give the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences an interim agreement for writing services.
Meanwhile Monday, the guild released a letter rejecting a waiver request from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which awards the Golden Globes. The letter said that granting a waiver "would not advance" the guild's ongoing battle with studios to negotiate a new contract.
In a separate letter to Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences also released Monday, the guild denied the use of clips from movies and past awards programs that could be shown during the award show in February.
The academy had made its standard, annual request for clip use to the writers guild and other relevant industry guilds that must grant approval, spokeswoman Leslie Under said Monday.
"The academy has not requested any strike-related waiver from the writers guild related to the awards show," she said.
In a statement, the Globe organization expressed measured unhappiness.
"The Golden Globe Awards, which has a long and friendly relationship with the Writers Guild of America, is obviously disappointed that the WGA denied its request for a waiver," the group said.
Would love that to happen. No oscars and no golden globe.

Anyway, if there are no Oscars this year (which I LOVE to watch, especially all the clips and stuff), I can't imagine what I will do. I mean, would they just announce the winners without a ceremony? Or improvise everything? This is such a big mess.

But the Oscars, even in a "bad" year (where I don't really agree with many of their choices) like 2005, are another story...

Would they just announce the winners on their website? What about acceptance speeches? Wouldn't it SUCK if you won an oscar but you couldn't even attend the ceremony of deliver an acceptance speech? Ugh, I HATE the WGA now. I hope the Academy gets rid of the screenplay cats and says "FUCK YOU" to the WGA, and still does the show, with whatever writers they can get. I would rather watch an unfunny and lame oscar show than no oscar show at all.

Don't be angry with the guild, be angry with the AMPTP, they're the ones being unreasonable and refusing to play ball.

Yeah...at first I was sympathetic toward's the WGA's cause...but they've really started to piss me off, and protesting that awards shows is just a slap in the face to the actors, directors, other people involved in the industry, and their fellow writers. Their BEST writers, actually.

To say it's a slap in the face to their fellow writers is a joke - they are all in it together. Also, let's not build up awards shows to be more than they are now. The other guilds (actors, directors and so on) would much rather WGA be picketing and fighting for a fair deal (which sets precedence for themselves, with the SAG and DGA). The SAG especially is very much tight with the WGA, one reason why the SAG Awards are good to go as they wish. Peace, Mike
