Jan 2004? Hm, good question. I knew in May after Troy failed that Alexander wouldn't win, no matter how good it was.
Well, it turned out to be awful, of course...

Besides, King Kong won't be getting any awards, and I think the academy has had it's fill of New Zealand hillbillies showing up and trying to act like they belong.
Clint won at the Globes. As soon as I see him win at the Oscars, then I will call it "his year". Seeing as how Scorcese won at the Globes for Gangs of New York only two years ago, I can see why he didn't win at the Globes. I think he'll pick up the Oscar statuette, no problem.

I still haven't seen Alexander...I don't think I want to, either. How many people liked it? 5?
Based on Closer's strength in the Acting categories, though, it still has a fighting chance at the 5th BP nominee. And, based on Finding Neverland's performance, it's veery possible that it isn't a lock, either.

Predictions based on long ion advance guesses are never right! People also thought Phantom of the Opera had a shot, and who was even talking about Sideways and Million Dollar Baby before they were released?
I agree that this Oscar season will be exciting because it's wide open. The pre-Oscar awards have been all over the place. Aviator wins Best Picture but loses Best Director. Closer comes from behind to grab important acting nominations. Sideways beats Eternal Sunshine. It's gonna be a roller coaster ride!

I don't think many predicted ESOTSM over Sideways. Sideways was sweeping critic circles from left to right and it wasn't that much "smaller" of a film.
But, in the last three years (I don't remember Gladiator that well), three movies considered to have a great chance at the award ended up winning (ROTK, Chicago, A Beautiful Mind).

Then again, everyone knew that The Aviator would be nominated and looks like it is going to happen

They should actually be announced any time? Isn't it early morning in England?

Yes it is. I can't remember what time they are released (early morning like Oscars or evening like critic Awards).

Like the whole forum is. Always.
WOKJ forums will overtake BOM forums one day. Not too soon, but it will happen one day, mark my words.

I believe it will too and it will do it with less registered users. mojo used to be such a great place when i was just a guest reader in late 2002 and especially when i joined in may 2003. The matrix reloaded was just about to come out and there was so many discussion threads on it's anticipation an as well bk 400 million hulk prediction ,t3, pirates, finding nemo, rotk. Now that place is such a dead zone . To get back on topic congrats to winners of the awards glad jamie won. how he's come such a long way since his days in "in living color".

I wasn't actually too excited about sitting on the couch for three hours tonight, but after Clive Owen won, I stuck around. And then Natalie Portman won, and I had to see where this was going.
It didn't really get any zanier than that, but it was a fun night.
Disappointments over Kate Winslet, Arrested Development (Desperate Housewives, grrr), and The Aviator taking best picture (though that's mainly because I wanted to hear Libs' hyena laugh).
But yay (again) for Jason Bateman, William Shatner (don't stare into the camera though, sir, you're scary), The Life and of Peter Sellers, and a nice speech by Jamie Foxx. I think speeches also do good for you awards-wise (remember Bill Murray last year?), and I don't think he'll be forgotten.
Good. Cool. Yay.
I'm happy.

I recorded it but I did watch about an hour and flipped over to Desperate Housewives.
Overall, I'm ecstatic about Closer getting 2 wins for the strongest performances. I really want to see Million Dollar Baby and Sideways, hopefully they will go wide soon..

Wow. What a night!!
The two shocks were at the very beginning, Clive and Natalie.
In each of their categories there was a veteran who gave a great performance and was and a Sideways co-star who all were winning rounds at the critics awards, and it went to the two Closer co-stars!!!
I can't believe Clint Eastwood won over Scorsese but I won't argue cuz I said in my predictions for the Globes, I wanted Clint to win!!
Great speech by Swank (though I was pullin for Uma, I knew Swank would win) and I loved her Eastwood tribute. He is the man.
So Aviator won 3, sideways and Baby tied for 2.
I'm pulling for Baby to win the big one at the Oscar and it has now defintely been raised into the spotlight. Now only the public really needs to get exposed to it and its expansion, I hope, does that!
I am quite upset that Kate Winslet lost to Annette Benning, but it just re-assures my predictions that Benning will win the Oscar!!!
More later, g2g now!

1. The wins by Clive Owen and Natalie Portman were surprising in a very good way and set the tone for the show, even though there were fewer surprises that followed. Very happy for them.
2. Golden Globe's tendency of spreading the wealth continued. The big three all got what they needed to continue being a best picture winner contender.
3. It does look to me that Clint got the best director mainly because Marty won it just two years ago, but Clint definitely deserves it on merit. Marty will still win the oscar.
4. If he hadn't already, Jamie Foxx nailed his oscar win with his beautiful speech tonight. His tears were genuine, and there is so much love toward him. This is a case where the frontrunner never slipped and will march all the way to the oscar. There is no trend where people are tired of rewarding him and seeing him on stage.
5. I believe Hilary Swank will win her second oscar. She had a great year too, not just for Million Dollar Baby, and I just think the emotional impact of her performance in Million Dollar Baby will be too strong to turn down. Her speech is very good as well.
6. I'm not very good at figuring out who dresses the best, but most ladies looked great, especially Kate, Scarlett, Uma, and Charlie Theron.
7. Not much else was cleared up. It still appears 3 films are fighting for the last 2 spots. Considering the nomination deadline is already due, all the results are already final, and we just have to wait and find out in 8 days and 6 hours.
8. Oh, Robin Williams was hilarious.
