 How to fix The CW
What would you do in order to fix The CW? Their ratings have been worse this season that last season's already poor results.
One of the things I would do is pick-up that Aquaman pilot they from last season. It probably would've done well. Also, I would stop targeting only teens, for the most part only female teens. They need to widen their target demo or their ratings will remain low.
I actually find it sad that MTV is actually doing better than The CW. The Hills did over 4.5 million viewers and A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila did 6.2 million for its finale. It's kind of sad considering MTV is a cable network and The CW is a broadcast network.

Re: How to fix The CW
Get rid of the entire network. It serves absolutely no purpose. Either that or invest in some decent writers with decent ideas. And they need to stop catering to a teenage audience like you said. It's clear they're not watching the network, might as well try a different demographic all together.

Re: How to fix The CW
They seriously need a new line-up because what they have is just not working. I'd say keep America's Next Top Model and Smallville because of their semi-decent ratings and Gossip Girl because it gets a lot of publicity (and it's the only show on the network I watch ), and just start over with a completely new set of shows. But I lost all respect for this network when they cancelled Veronica Mars

They should do what Fox did: make lots of animated and reality shows and keep throwing stuff up till something catches on.

It's really not a hard question, start making shows like the other 4 networks with adult casts and storylines. Medical dramas, crime procedurals, married people having affairs, whatever. It's all in the shows.

It's all in the shows. The thing is, almost all their pilots this passed season were for more adult shows. They had two college aged shows (Reaper and one other) and one teenybopper show (Gossip Girl) and then about five that were adult casts. So they do this to themselves.

Veronica Mars was the biggest loss, and it's gone for good. I'll miss Gossip Girl and Reaper, but not so much that I'll cry. So.
Fuck the CW.

You guys know if Veronica Mars was still on the air right now, it would be part of the problem that this thread was created to address, right?

Not to mention all of its new series, including the buzzed-about Reaper and Gossip Girl.

Yes, but being in less deep of a hole is still being in a hole.

At least it would still have its one critically acclaimed show around. (Gilmore Girls was far from acclaimed by season 7. As crappy as season 3 of VM was, it was still a critical darling.)

Considering this "network" has yet to cancel a show that's been averaging about 1 million viewers (Life is Wild), I don't think "Veronica Mars" would've been any more of a liability to them right now. But you're right. All that really deserves to be on the air is Top Model and Smackdown. Everything else ranges from crap to shit.

Re: How to fix The CW
The CW should invest in some new series targeting adults and come back with a new advertising campaign showcasing their new made-over image.

Re: How to fix The CW
The CW needs to invest a decent chunk of money and creative faith in maybe three shows, then market the shit out of them. From two or three big hits the network can completely turn itself around in a matter of years.
Remember when Alias was ABC's only performing drama, and one of its very few scripted shows? Six years on and ABC is basically the top network based on the immense strength of scripted shows.
I'd tell The CW to get a procedural drama in there, a dark comedy and maybe a scifi drama.
They need to reach out to a different audience, the teen seg they go after is more interested in the internet and mtv now. They can gear drama to attract teens, but stupid shows like Gossip Girl are not the way to do it.

Re: How to fix The CW
That certainly won't help. My guess is this is a precursor to CW shutting its doors. It'll use the strike as an easy way out.

Re: How to fix The CW
Yeah, I didn't think it before, but it makes sense that WWE knows the CW is a sinking ship and would rather put a new deal in place now rather than be left without a network home if and when the CW goes kapootsey.

Re: How to fix The CW
The CW needs to step it up next season if they want to survive. I believe they need to stop aiming for the teen demo and go for Adults 18-49.

Re: How to fix The CW
It's been mentioned... but the teenage audience is fickle and their tastes change with the speed of a fart. If you center a network's entire programing around teens you are asking for trouble eventually.
The reason why MTV is still around is that they are still fairly flexible due to the types of programs they show. But it kills show longevity.

They need to get Veronica Mars back . Bring it back like they would have had it been picked up for another season.
