A delightful surprise. A really great experience. I haven't been this moved in the theatre in a while. I'm surprised to be saying this, but this might be the best picture of the year!

Gerard Butler turns out to be a really great romatic lead. Who knew?

Definitely one of the most cliche romantic comedies I've seen. Not memorable, not really even that enjoyable it was almost painful to watch. Way too many flashbacks, not near enough comedy. In general, it just was bad.

Not funny enough or dramatically effective enough. Instead, it is just a rather inert experience with poor performances across the board, especially from Swank who is obviously clueless as far as comedy is concerned and not very good in the dramatic scenes either. Butler really is one note and his personality gets on one's nerves after a while. Perhaps never has a film seemed so long.

I dont understand why they'd call a movie this.
It's just so awful.
It makes the whole thing sound like an afterthought.

I was definitely disappointed by this. It's a harmless little romantic comedy and I'd probably label it "OK," but the bulk of it is incredibly cliched and cheesy - not to mention poorly written. It's not as mind-numbingly by the books as August Rush was earlier this season, but it's still a manipulative experience. Every single scene is incredibly predictable, and a great deal of it requires some suspension of disbelief. Hilary Swank is alright in a role better suited for another actress, but she is likable enough in the lead. Gerard Butler is also decent and probably the best of the cast. Lisa Kudrow, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Gina Gershon are all decent yet incredibly underused, and Harry Connick Jr. is atrocious. The real problem to be found here comes in the form of the pacing. The film is way too long and quickly begins to drag after the halfway mark. I also didn't like the overall structure of the film and the way the flashbacks were handled - I would have preferred a more straightforward approach. Overall, P.S. I Love You is an alright film, but there's really nothing about it that makes it a memorable moviegoing experience.

I was annoyed the entire time.

While Hilary does a serviceable job, this role was not for her. I just couldn't care less in the end, and i blame the script. I was annoyed by Butler after about 5 minutes. I just didn't find any part of this relationship totally convincing at all. I was hoping to cry, but all I got was some pretty good looks from my watch.

The film is also 30 minutes far too long. The first scene is was one of the most overwritten scenes I have ever witnessed. Why did it have to be a good 20 minutes, weren't we convinced enough they have marriage problems and loved each other after a good 5 minutes. The scene where they are walking in the national park isn't Swank meant to be 19 and Butler 24/25ish. Yeah, right. A totally scene that should have been omitted.

Kathy Bates has to be very embarrassed by association, Connick Jr looked like he had other places to be.

The only thing that saves this film from a total F, is Lisa Kudrow. Not only does she steal the scenes but she actually makes the other characters somewhat likeable in the process. It's unfortunate they were somewhat underused.

Now on to the review:

It was sure swell to see a straight up romance for a change! I'm all for ROM-COM's, but a pure unadulterated, good old weepy romance is just what the doctor ordered once in a while, and P.S. I Love You worked like a charm for me. It has all the classic mannerisms of a romance, and I think that is where some of the bad reviews came from - - some people seem to bridle at the romantic conventions, that to the romance fan, fit like a comfortable shoe.

Swankwas great in the lead, and Gerard Butler was too (as he had shown previously in Dear Frankie), but the wide array of quality supporting actors gave the movie it's breadth of fresh air.

All in all a lovely romantic portrayal of the process of love and the process of grief, all wrapped up in a lovely Irish linen funeral wrap...

Seriously, the more I think about this movie, the more I dislike it. It doesn't deserve the amazing legs it is having at the box office at all.

Seriously, only very few movies of 2007 surprised me as much positively as this one did. Seeing my grade, you must realize now that what I was expecting was utter clichéd trash. The reason I went to see this was because we had free passes and, hey, that's a good date flick to go to with a girlfriend.

But in the end, it ended up being quite a decent romance/drama. Yes, it was clichéd as hell, but I thought there were some truly well-done heartfelt moments in there too. Neither Hilary Swank nor Gerard Butler disappointed in their respective roles and I felt the chemistry between them, something that's lacking a lot in movies like this nowadays. There were also a couple of quite funny scenes in there (like the boat). The supporting cast was aces, in particular Lisa Kudrow and Harry Connick Jr. whose character annoyed me at first, but I began to like later on. I was happy Swank didn't end up with him at the end.

Of course, this isnb't a great film by any means. It's way overlong for its own good. The whole thing with that Irish dude who also played in Butler's band seemed too forced and so unnecessary (not to mention rather unrealistic). There were a wee bit too many flashbacks and of course the whole thing is corny as hell.

However, I just couldn't help, but like it afterall. I thought it was rather well-acted (barring a few exceptions, mildly funny and well romantic).

Oh, oh - - the Doc liked it - - now what a ya gonna say?

It's just lucky you didn't see it!

Some REALLY strong moments (the scene in Ireland showing how they first met, the reading of the final letter from Gerry, the argument in the first five minutes) could not offset the bad moments (em...basically most of the movie). The "twist" ending felt REALLY forced...as if they had to change it after test audiences went mad. But there were some pretty genuine moments that made it not unbearable.

Surprisingly really good. Loved Gerard Butler and Hilary Swank in it. Butler was incredibly charming. I loved the part that showed when they first met. I thought both had very good chemistry.

I was so glad she didn't end up with Harry Connick, Jr.'s character. I didn't like him, and when it seemed like it was heading in that direction I was pissed. Thankfully that didn't happen and I was very pleased with the ending.

This is underrated. I wasn't expecting much at all after the mediocre word-of-mouth (plus it didn't look like anything great to begin with), but while it does require a suspension of disbelief at times, I thought it worked really well and I found it moving.

All of the WOM I heard for this film was good. I'm speaking here about WOM from real people who actually went to see the movie. However, the corporate reviewers were definitely out to sink this film for some reason, and I did notice some "WOM" from people who had not seen it parroting these reviews...
