The ROTK argument. Then it would have got ensemble. It didn't.

I was going to point that out. So why DID Owen and Portman win?

Man! This thing is 50% commercials. 5 minutes of awards followed by 5 minutes of ads.

Cause they gave outstanding performances! Actually, I'm wondering the same thing. I'm glad they did, but it just wasn't expected, especially Natalie.

Golden Globes love, love, love, love Hollywood? And Closer is about as Hollywood you can get. Don't forget the masturbation fest last year which was Mike Nichols' Angels In America.

Natalie Portman also had a huge year, one can argue that Garden State wasn't very far away from getting her a Best Supporting nom.

Yeah but because they love Hollywood you would think they would award cate Blanchett's great Katherine Hepburn impersonation in Aviator

Mmm, good point, though Angels in America was much more beloved then Closer, which had a decidedly mixed reaction ( though personally I loved it). Portman doing Closer and Garden State would make sense I suppose, and Owen really was the best thing about Closer.

I think the theory is that the Golden Globes are infatuated with the new and current HOT stars, not the stars of yesteryear or old Hollywood.

I think Cate winning before played a factor, too. She still is in serious contention for the Oscar, though.

I agree, in no way with Portman or Owen win an Oscar. Especially not Owen.

REMEMBER PEOPLE: Oscar noms were turned in last week, Closer gains NO HEAT from winning all these awards tonight if it didn't get nominated in the categories!

I think Owen is a serious player in the Oscar race, still. This win can only help him.
