Re: WorldofKJ Top 10 Films Of 2007
Can we post them here and update/edit as we finish the year? or should we wait until we're completely ready/done?

Re: WorldofKJ Top 10 Films Of 2007
I've decided to finally cave in and start downloading. It happens every year, I vow not to, but then I end up not going to the city for like 3 months and I can't handle the wait.
So put me on hold.

Why is that? To mantain a certain amount of integrity, ie no lists with Spider-Man 3 as #1 and Shrek 3 as #2. These lists are separate from the WoKJ Movie Awards which are for less discriminating taste. Newsflash. People with terrible taste can post in the awards forum.

Re: WorldofKJ Top 10 Films Of 2007
I think loyal's reasoning behind rule number two was to ensure that no random rube with a twitchy finger can submit a top ten list featuring Ghost Rider, Saw IV and Mr. Woodcock. It's sound logic, but maybe a rule that isn't relegated to one sub-forum is in order.

Re: WorldofKJ Top 10 Films Of 2007
Most of the members of this site ARE film snobs anyways, so I don't think you'd see Spider-Man 3 or Shrek the Third on the list at all. Just because some people aren't as much interested in the Academy Awards this early (or at all) doesn't mean that the integrity of the list will decrease by including their vote. In the end, it balances anyways.
And it's easier to eliminate joke ballots than preventing everyone who doesn't post in the Awards section from voting.

I don't think it will keep out terrible ballots at all. I think you should have a normal, everyone can submit, "the top ten films on the forums are..." list, and then just play god and pick ten people to represent the main site, or something.

Zing is right, Spiderman 3 and Mr. Woodcock aren't on anyone's list, and if they are, it'll be an isolated incident and they won't make it anyways. I don't think we should exclude big buffs like Jmart just because he doesn't post in the awards forum.
I saw no restrictions.

kypade is right though, this is not a movie snob forum. I like Magnus' idea about voting on people's lists. It really calls out the mongoloids.

I haven't actually seen 10 movies this year, so I can't participate, but wouldn't the critics forum make more sense? Seems to fit better.

I also wonder if January 15th is too soon. Give the people longer to see those expanding oscar films maybe? (Im not sure when There Will Be Blood will be near me)

(Im not sure when There Will Be Blood will be near me) that's one week before Oscar noms are announced. Any later in the season and it defeats the purpose. We covered the issue in the Award forum, which oddly goes back to the whole being an active member in that forum. Hey, I visit the forum multiple times every day! I just don't read every thread or post.

Re: WorldofKJ Top 10 Films Of 2007
I just think that this is a tricky situation because of stuff like Die Hard, Transformers, 300. If we let the chips fall where they may, one or all of those has a good chance of making it. Granted I have no problem varying tastes, my own are f.u.c.k.e.d a lot of the time(hell... Transformers is in my top 10), but like loyal said what we end up with then is KJ People's Choice awards or the MPAs in the Water Cooler. Also, who are we to say 300, Die Hard, and Transformers is any worse than Eastern Promises and I'm Not There? Because RT says so? It's just a toughie.
I'd still go with no restrictions.

I'm all for snobby classifications. *Shrugs* Though that might because I've probably made more posts than anyone in the Awards forum in the last month.

So should the top 10 of 2007 thread currently in cinemania be moved to the awards forum? I may have 10 posts if it is! So close!

Is the rest restricted to films released in the USA only in 2007?
I need to know if I'll include The Wind That shakes The Barley or not.

Re: WorldofKJ Top 10 Films Of 2007
Maybe we could have a balance. Instead of making this thread an announcement that appears everywhere, just sticky it to the top of the awards forum. People can submit if they bother to look here, but if they don't, no harm no foul. We're not restricting them from anything, they just didn't notice.

Re: WorldofKJ Top 10 Films Of 2007
If point 2 is meant to be enforced, i vote this thread remains only in the awards forum. if your award activity is high enough, you would come to this forum anyway. no need to piss others off with this point because the way i see it, i would vote a film like transformers to be a film of the year over any film made for the sole purpose of grabbing an oscar, which 80% of the films talked about in the oscar section do.
