Hmmm...that's actually rather surprising.

The top 4 are really close. Any of them can win.

Well, yeah, but I don't see why Bardem should have the highest odds especially considering the GG track record (them going for big stars) and the fact that The Sea Inside did not make a huge splash at the box-office.

Javier Bardem is considered (and I'm quoting here) a Golden Globe "darling." And while no one has won in this category before, for a foreing film, this is his second nomination, and the sentimental favorite (along with Cheadle, who might also be considered overdue). Plus, despite its lackluster box office performance, The Sea Inside is likely to take the best foreign film award. Leo and Johnny could easily cancel each other out, (so could Cheadle and Bardem, I know).
Rave reviews. People are, after all, predicting Imelda Staunton and Annette Benning for equally small films. It could easily happen.

Yes, most have commented that he is the one who deserves the win.

guess I will have to bump this up a couple of times - hopefully sooner or later someone new will respond with the answer.

I know. But that was before the movie disappointed at the box-office, he missed out on SAG and hasn't basically won any significant awards yet...

They really think Streep has more of a shot than Madsen?

I don't buy this Leo and Johnny canceling each other out crap. Even if they do, they'll still receive MORE votes than Bardem. It'll only make things closer between the two of them, not easier for one of the other 3 to sneak up and capture it.

Exactly. Best Supporting Actress is easily their worst-called one, especially considering Madsen will win if Blanchett doesn't.

You are a bit wrong. Did you forget that at the BFCA both Dicaprio and Depp received less votes than Bardem?
