I'm glad for Atonement, but why The Great Debeters and not Into The Wild or 3:10 to Yuma?
Across the Universe instead of Once or Waitress? Julia Roberts? This is a joke.

Biggest winner:

Atonement
Sweeney Todd
Charlie Wilson's War
American Gangster

Biggest loser:
Once
Into the Wild
Jesse James

My biggest upsets are the snub of Once, Sean Penn, Hal Halbrook, Emile Hirsch, the complete Into the Wild shout out.

The positive ones: Atonement buzz, Keira, James and oh, the Clint power. ;) :hahaha:

The Great Debaters was really the stupidest throw in for a nomination, considering the film received NO other nominations and it created a stretched category to 7 nominees for Best Picture Drama. I mean, stretching the traditional 5 nominees per category to 6 is one thing, but 7 films is moronic. You're supposed to make a decision and nominate the very best. So silly.

Peace,
Mike

Goddamn motherfuckin' Clint just can't stay out of the goddamn race for ONE DAMN YEARE??!?!?? And OVER ONCE. JESUS.

Anyway, a quick rundown:

-Atonement gets the boost it very much needed.
-TWBB gets its SECOND Director/Writer snub this week, not good all.
-Into the Wild also got kinda screwed over.
-CWW gets one last gasp of air, but I still think it's only in for S. Actor and Screenplay (But it does now have a shot at S. Actress).
-I also think AG isn't getting much more than this, though it helps Denzel significantly.
-Eastern Promises, impressive. I think this also locks down Actor in four spots (Clooney, Day-Lewis, Depp, Mortensen), with -McAvoy, Washington, Gosling (Weird!) and maybe Hirsch competing for slot #5. Why oh why did we underestimate The Passion of The Ebert?
-The Great Debators, jeez.
-I really enjoyed Across the Universe, so I'll blame CWW for the Once snub. UGH.

Crazy, crazy shit.

AG!

I'm still not a hundred percent on Atonement because this is exactly what Cold Mountain did. It's lookin pretty good though.

The Great Debaters... pretty lol, but loyal's link foreshadowed it.

8. American Gangster

I can agree with that ranking. TWBB is really starting to worry me.

I never liked the Golden Globes to begin with. They try to hard to cover so much ground. TV/movies, and then they split the movies into musicals and comedies/dramas. We know that the Oscars virtually ignore comedies anyhow, and the GG nominate so many films for best picture, that I find them kinda useless anyhow. Maybe its just me...

I was expecting better birthday gifts (Kidman, Leigh, Judd, Away From Her showing up in other categories...). Meh.

Across the Universe is a very passion-driven movie (the same way Moulin Rouge was, only more divisive). Not a huge shocker that got in, for me at least.

Oh, and Atonement is in. Deal with it. :P It's more like The English Patient than Cold Mountain if we want comparisons... it even got the exact same noms, LOL

Yay for Across the Universe! Very well deserved. =)

I'm not worried about Into the Wild yet. It was expected to do bad at the GG.

Btw, is Into the Wild, Michael Clayton and American Gangster are the only contenders whose main characters are actual real-life people? If so, the Oscars always have at least one real-life person BP nominee.

The HFPA flips out for Big Names. They didn't know anyone from Once so they didn't nominate it

Apparently... some of the stars have said they won't attend the Golden Globes if the Writer's Strike is still on by then. In which case, the HFPA wouldn't get their precious star sparkled night. This is aside from the dilemma of who exactly will "write" the show, although I suppose the Globes aren't exactly like the Oscars.

Peace,
Mike

And for the last few years, they've flipped out for Clint.

I'm not too worried about Once being snubbed for song (should I???!!? :| ) since their track record has been spotty against the Academy. I mean, they even managed to snub the Armageddon song! And that was Aerosmith and Diane Warren! (Oscar managed to rectify that, and also, as a plus, nominated the cool song from Babe: Pig in the City)
