Nothing in this movie makes sense. Currently there is debate in the Cinemania forum on how bad FLIGHTPLAN is, because of its ending. Well not one bit of DERAILED is slightly plausible. However, for some reason, I also enjoyed the aspect as well. As it gave us some great scenes and made it a reasonably fun.
The three main actors, Owen, Aniston and Cassel, are miscast especially Owen and Cassel, but nevertheless do a great job with the material at hand.

I haven't read the novel that the movie is based on, so no comments from me on its faithfulness to the source. I will have to judge it as a stand-alone flick and as that I found it really pedestrian. About five minutes into the movie I figured out the main twist. Actually, ever since I saw the first trailer for the film, I had a hunch that Aniston would end up as the evil one. The rest of the movie was just as predictable, so I don't know whether I can really call the twists in this film real "twists".
On the other hand, the plot development was still nicely done, even though I was bored every now and then during the first half of the film. The movie really takes to long to really get started. On the upside, Clive Owen delivered a great performance. This guy has a great future in movie business ahead of him. Vincent Cassel's villain was generic and hammed up, but still quite a bit of fun. Aniston's character, however, was rather wasted.
The final 15-20 minutes, while very illogical, were still at least entertaining. Also, the movie had some nice shocking moments inbetween, like the scene in which Charles' friend is shot by LaRoche all of sudden.
Okay-ish flick.

Dull as dishwater.
Fantastically uninspired direction, boring performances, unlikable characters, utterly predictable. And some really ugly, ugly camerawork.

Yeah... I thought it was watchable but really lackluster, and ridiculous.

Huh, this was a good movie, but not one that I would want to see again. The twists were excellent, and I did love the ending in the prison, but something was off. I dunno.
I'll still give it a B, I think.

I liked the movie; the performances were pretty good, and Clive Owen and Jennifer Aniston are just two people you don't mind seeing on screen for an hour and a half. My only real problem was that it was way too predictable. I knew from the commercials alone that *spoiler* Jennifer Aniston was involved with the guy threatening Clive Owen, and I when it happened, I was slightly disappointed because I hoped I was wrong. I also didn't like the whole hotel shoot out at the end.. but I liked the whole twist with Clive finding the guy at the prison. Not a bad movie, just could have used a bit more work plot wise.

(Sorry, I saw it awhile ago, so I'm blanking on the names of the characters)

The first part was extremely boring and after the shooting was great, only that it was way to predictible, and you just knew she was involved.

The movie felt way too contrived. And while I didn't read the book, I felt the same way about the ending (that it wasn't very good).

I'm in the minority who enjoyed the film. I guess the movie entertained me enough that I can look past the plot holes (or perhaps I'm simply stupid and didn't notice as many of them, because I didn't spot too many). Clive Owen rocks the house, and the villain was a bit one-dimensional but was delivered with full force, so I didn't mind. I didn't see the twists coming at all, and actually really enjoyed the ending (even if it was below the par set up by the first and especially second act).

Derailed
This is my second viewing. I loved it when I watced it before because I didn't see any marketing for it, I didn't even know the plot, so I was so surprised. I love surprises like those. But this time I already knew the twist and what happens. It didn't detract from the great performances of Clive Owen and Cassell, though. It's still a good solid movie. It kind of says that theft and adultery are acceptable, but extortion is a no-no.
This film, regardless of how much I like it, still uses rappers and labels them as actors. RZA and Xzibit are horrible, but I'm glad they both die. But also they were only small roles so it's ok. Aniston is fine in this, and her not yet being in her weird face stage (which I believe is anything post-2009) was a blessing.
Obviously Mikael Håfström's next project will be his best ever, but this is his second best for sure. He doesn't have a style as such, but his movies are competently made and I can put my trust in him that he'll entertain me.
I adore Clive Owen so it's no surprise that I like this movie. I have to see The Intruders, though, it looks awesome. I'm going to have to watch Shoot 'em Up and The International again. I remember disliking the former but liking the latter, but I can't remember much about either.

Still not a big fan of this one. Huge Clive Owen fan, and it has its moments of suspense, but it just not gel. The Next Three Days is a similar film I find far more entertaining and satisfying.
